Lovers Killers

He felt the flat of the blade press firmly to his neck. He stood upright and felt the thin young man behind him. It always surprised him how a lithe thing like him could out power and kill another being. His hot lips hovered slightly away from the detective’s ear as he whispered. “I’m sorry darling, but I’ve got a new pet now.”
“Replacing me with a profiler?”
“Not at all Mr. Andrews… not at all.” The knife slid away from his neck. He turned quickly but found himself alone again. He didn’t even know the creature’s name, but for months now he had been visited by him. Taunted and teased, verbally and sexually. The most frightening night was in his home, in the den. After using him he gave him clues to the newest corpse. So what was this? Game over. Was he starting a new tease?
An unfamiliar laugh echoed not far off followed by that of the suspect. He moved to follow it but was caught by an officer. “Sir, we just got a report from HQ, they want you on 56th and Willow right away. Apparently they’ve found another body but there’s something different about this one.”
“Different how?” He followed the officer to the car, forgetting suddenly about the laughter.
“They didn’t say. But you’ll be meeting Detective Dunkan there.”
He waited until they were on the road before asking. “Isn’t Dunkan working the other killer case?”
“Yes sir.”
“New pet huh?” He muttered quietly.
“What was that Sir?”
“Nothing.”

The scene was crawling with forensic workers. They wouldn’t find much, Andrews was sure of it. They never did. The mutilated corpse was hanging upside down on a fire escape later. Nude male, probably in his thirties.
“Jack Hopper. His wallet was lying just under him, like it had been placed there on purpose.” Dunkan was young but good. Still, it surprised Andrews that he got such an important case.
“That’s your killer’s style right?”
“Yeah, but the blood being drained from vic isn’t. Nor is finding the body whole and in such an obvious place.”
He looked over at one of the scene investigators, “You got enough pictures yet?”
“Yeah, I think so.”
“Then get that guy down from there.”
“Yes sir.”
He followed Dunkan up to the body and gave it a look over. “I think they’re working together now.”
“Yeah, but what if there always has been only one?” Dunkan shifted nervously, “Or what if we got ourselves a copy cat?”
“We’ll see. I don’t think we’ve got three killers though. They eyes are your guy right?”
“Yep. Looks like the same tools as the last times. It’s been a few weeks since we last heard from my killer. Last thing we found was a leg with a note attached to it.”
“Was it addressed to you?”
“Yeah. He wished me luck. It was typed, printed off a home computer probably. No prints. . . What makes you think they’d work together?”
“A hunch… Though it makes you wonder how they met up.”
The word: “Fate” slowly drifted past Andrews’ ears.
Andrews looked up at Dunkan. “Fate?”
Dunkan gave him a strange look. “Answer your own question often?”
“You didn’t say that?”
“No. . . How long has it been since you slept or ate?”
Andrews sighed. “Probably too long.”
“Ah… come on… I’ll get you some dinner.” Dunkan helped Andrews to his feet. “We’ll talk more there and see what we get when these slackers finish their jobs.”

“Yer gonna cook dinner for us?”
“Yeah, helps me think.” Andrews looked around Dunkan’s apartment. It was mostly clean except for a stack of files and information sitting on his coffee table. He seemed to understand form and function pretty well; at least he knew how to decorate. “Make yourself comfortable. Can I get you something to drink while you wait?”
“No, I’m good.” Andrews sat on the couch and studied Dunkan’s case. “Hey, what’s your first name anyway?”
“Oscar. Yours is Victor isn’t it?”
“Yeah.” Andrews went over the maps and charts and countless photos in the files. He found himself staring blankly at the colored dots indicting where body parts where found and almost found him self amused by the whole thing being color coded. “Is this what you do in your spare time too, Oscar?”
“Pretty much my life right now.”
“Good thing you aren’t married. I know it’s killing mine.”
“Yeah? Sorry to hear that.” Victor was almost surprised at how genuine that sounded. “Maybe you should take some time off?”
He put the pages down and leaned back, letting out a deep sigh as he did. “I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“He’s watching me. I know that sounds strange but… I think he’s playing some sort of game with me. And I think if I stopped, the trail would go cold and he’ll change his tune a bit. He either wants me to find him, or finds some sadistic pleasure at watching me struggle with those little clues he leaves. Some times I swear he… talks to me.”
“Victor… That’s just creepy.”
He let out a guffaw as a reply. “You’re telling me.”
There was a silence before Oscar wandered over and peered down at him. “You’ve actually met him haven’t you?”
He sighed and looked up at the young detective. “Spoken at length with him once. I’ve never really seen his face. I know his whisper, and I know his laugh.”
“Have you reported this?!”
“No. Because they’d take me off the case.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“When did you last hear from him?”
“Honestly?”
“No, lie to me.” His sarcasm was obnoxious, and almost cute in a childish way.
“Tonight. He held a knife to my neck and told me he had a new pet to play with. I’m assuming he meant your suspect, which is why I think they’re playing this game together now.”
“I’m not so sure it’s a game to them.” Dunkan sat down on the arm of the couch. “I think it’s… a way of life.”
“Mmm… Maybe.” Andrews looked over. “Dinner?”
“Is served.”

They ate and chatted a bit. Victor learned that cooking and decorating were some of Oscar’s other pastimes, and Oscar learned about Victor’s two children and his wife. The conversation turned lightly awkward when Victor mentioned he had a daughter about Oscar’s age. He cleared his throat a bit in that startled way. “Oh?”
“Yes, she’s studying to go into pediatrics.”
“Good field.”
“Yeah, and my son says he wants to be a lawyer. He wants to make the big bucks.”
“Yeah, there’s good money in it if you know what you’re doing. I have an uncle who’s a damn good lawyer. My cousin, his only son, wants to be a detective too. Always getting himself in trouble.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, and since my Uncle is such a big name in law and has some enemies, he actually got my cousin this… bodyguard three years ago. Real tough guy, I’ve never seen him smile or anything like that. He’s usually taking all the guff for the trouble my cousin gets into. Good kid but sometimes he’s just a little too, how shall I put this, provocative.”
“You mean in a sexual way?”
“Yeah, He’s got this… boyfriend, at least last he told me about. And he’s… I don’t know… Not half as innocent as he comes off.”
“A gay detective, fancy that.”
Oscar gave a coy sort of smirk. “Oh, it’s not too out of the question.”
Victor raised an eye brow before going back to his meal. Yeah, a few stereotypes fell into place just then but he found himself more intrigued by it then nervous. Sure, his little killer had messed with him, but he had always just accepted that as a psychopathic murderer it was to be expected that he was sexually deviant. But he had never really taken a stand on homosexuality before and was almost surprised at how, unaffected he was by the subject. “Yeah, that makes sense.”
Dunkan shifted nervously. “Now you’re uncomfortable?”
“No.” Andrews almost laughed. “No not at all. And you’re little secret is safe with me. Actually I’m more curious than anything.”
“About what?”
“You seeing anyone?”
He laughed lightly. “Why, you interested?” It was a childish sarcasm again.
Andrews just smiled. “You plan on working late on this case tonight?”
“I think you’re avoiding my question.” He winked. “But yeah, I usually do.”
“I’ll join you then, let me call the ol’ woman and let her know I’ll be out late.”

And they worked late into the evening until Oscar subconsciously flopped back against Victor. When he realized what kind of contact he made he got very nervous, but was shocked to find Victor reach up and pet his hair. “Getting a headache?”
“Yeah.”
“You know, sex relieves headaches.”
“What?” Oscar was caught so terribly off guard his voice cracked, not knowing weather or not to shout in surprise or whisper in fear. Andrews honestly sounded like he was offering.
In response to Dunkan’s startled reaction Victor leaned slowly over and kissed his lips gently. “I said, sex relieves headaches.”
“Wait a minute.” Oscar sat up and looked at Andrews. “You’re saying that you want to sleep with me? Cheat on your wife with a man? Have you ever actually had sex with a guy before?”
“I’ve been pretty close.”
Dunkan shifted a bit and puffed his chest out as he pondered the situation. “Well, I have to warn you that I prefer the dominate position.”
Victor smiled again and tugged on Oscar’s shirt. “Good. I’ve been giving it for years and it’s about damn time that I get some.”
Oscar’s eyes went a bit wild as he pulled the older man up. “Well, let me show you the ropes then Detective Andrews.”
“Heh, kinky.” Clothing dropped as lips met. Victor found that Oscar had a hell of a fire inside of him. His kisses were rough and passionate, his hands were steady and authoritative, and his body was firm and demanding.
Things slowed down dramatically when they reached the bed. Victor was exposed and though he felt like he should feel shy, he felt instead as though Oscar was more than understanding. As his hands traveled him, he spoke softly, giving instructions in almost a sensual way. He made it comfortable. After spreading the lubrication he gently slid a finger in, then two. Then ever so carefully he put his hand in motion and kissed Andrews sweetly. Andrews let himself be distracted by the kiss but his attention sharply turned back toward his lower regions when something that was very much so not Oscar’s fingers slid into him. He tensed and Oscar moaned loudly at the grip the older man’s body now had on his manhood. He took a moment before relaxing into him, and though it did hurt a bit the pleasure quickly took over.
With each trust the moans and grunts got louder. One of Andrews hands gripped tightly to the sheets of the bed, the other was firmly holding Oscar’s hand. As the end came near Oscar’s other hand came out of seemingly no where and began pumping the older man’s groin. That sped up the process until finally Victor’s back arched and he rather excitedly orgasmed. Oscar joined him in the process but still gave a few final gentle thrusts and grinds inside of Andrews. Eventually though, he began to pull himself out but was quickly stopped.
“No.” Victor kissed his neck carefully. “Please stay, just a bit longer.”
Oscar smiled almost devilishly and adjusted himself and Victor comfortably. “As you wish.” He felt like he could really get used to this kind of partnership, and oddly, Andrews had a similar notion.
