Escape

Awaiting dawn, mist like waves roll along slowly
Memories of night, fading midnight blue
Dew disturbed by movement

Broken night on the skyline, able to stretch once more
Pounding feet, beating heart
Rustle of leaves beneath velvet soles

A steady pace uninterrupted by the spreading light
Heart heavy, mind awake to emotion
Finding a release away from all

Moisture in the air and on the skin dripping
Panting, in and out with force
The need to go stays strong

Reflections of home in a spitting stream,
Yet temptation, never stopping
Choices echoing everywhere

Eventually home beckons to the heart
Turning, repeat the steps
Capable to return once more

Feeling of longing, awaiting dawn once more
Sneakers beckon all day long,
Freedom to run
