You know? Shakespeare's tragedies can really make a person depressed. Anyway. So we're reading Julius Caesar in in my English class, and today we read a rather heart-wrenching, disturbing soliloquy by the character Mark Antony, who was distraught over Caesar's rather bloody and cruel death. It was really depressing, and somehow I was reminded of Jeri's grief when her partner Leomon was killed by Beelzemon, Impmon's evolved form. And thus this picture was drawn. Impmon's feeling terrible because he committed the deed while influenced by his power, and now eveything's messed up; Leomon's dead, Jeri's withdrawn into herself, Takato feels helpless because he can't do anything to console her, and the viewers at home who saw that particular episode of Digimon were no doubt deeply disappointed in Impmon for stepping over the line (represented by Kylee in the background). Eh, am I getting too deep? Oh well, I needed to get it out. Perhaps I'll post the modern version (so you're not confused by old english) of that particular monologue that moved me (or scared me, it depends). This is what Mark Antony said as he bent over the emaciated body of Caesar.
Oh, forgive me, thou bleeding piece of earth,
That I am so meek and gentle with your butchers...
Thou art the ruins of the noblest man
That ever lived in the tide of times.
Woe to the hand that shed this precious blood!
Over thy wounds now do I prophecy
(Which like dumb mouths do ope their ruby lips,
To beg me to speak for them),
A curse shall light upon the limbs of men;
Domestic fury and fierce civil strife
Shall cumber all parts of this city,
Blood and destruction will be so common,
And dreadful deeds so familiar,
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants cut to pieces by the hand of war,
All pity gone through seeing so much cruelty.
And Caesar's spirit, roving in search of revenge,
With the goddess of strife and discord at his side, hot from hell,
Shall in this country, with a kingly voice,
Cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war,
Making this foul deed reek on the earth
With the stench of rotting corpses groaning to be buried.
If anyone has ever experienced the death of someone close to them, they are familiar with the bitterness and spite conveyed in this soliloquy. I know I am. The picture I drew is much more mild, of course, because I can't depress my fellow artists, now can I? Shakespeare really is a brilliant writer, and even his tragedies are worth reading. This really has nothing to do with the above picture, but I just wanted to share this. Sorry for the long rant! =3 \

I remember seeing that episode...I cried. It was sad and I also saw Julius Ceaser in my english class last year, the book was very boring and I slept through most of it but the movie was really good, and it was sad to. Ceaser's death was very brutal. I couldn't believe that his friends killed him...that's so sad. And then um...I remember how his one wife that he had tried to warn him before he went to that meeting and he didn't listen to her and then yeah. He really should've listened to her. I think I cried during that movie too...lol. I'm a bit cryer..good job with this though!
