My drawing teacher and I had several disagreements over the semester over what exactly an assignment should look like. I felt that a peice should show skill, he felt it should show a composition. We both knocked heads over this, but of course, in the end it was my job to make the comprimise. So, I did and 18X24 peice in crosshatch with a ball-point pen, the assignment being to take objects that are ordinary, and arrange them in a landscape. This turned out to be fun, and I played with atmosphere, shadows, and perspective, though towards the end it got so unbearibly repeatative.

I was planning on calling it 'Sunrise over painter's hill' and being all upbeat about it, until my father peered over my shoulder and asked 'Is that Painter's Hell'?... and I couldn't very well say no. Heh. :)

On the upside, the assignment took 11.5 hours to do (he had suggested 12 as a guidline), it only took me a weekend, and I got a quadrupal 'A' on it.

On the downside, I scanned it in 7 peices, and it sucked. Sorry about the large file size.

This piece is aptly named and the little detail will make your jaw drop. At first glance it looks like a landscape, but take a closer look and you will be surprised!

Introducing Emy Says:

That's soooo coool!! I love the cross-hatching. Always been a fave style of mine so I guess I'm a tad bias.

Minstrel Ayreon Says:

First, congrats on the "Featured Art"!

It kinda reminds me of one of the really twisted Gerald Scarfe animations from Pink Floyd's The Wall...not exactly sure why, but it does.

ZiggyBuggy Says:

Wow. I love ballpoint pen drawings, I even like doodle done by pens. Not sure why, but I do.

Miroku of Nite Says:

When I first seen this picture (In preview) I thought it was a mass amount of people with pikes in the air, but then I looked at it in full view and seen that it was a bunch of paint and bushes. Either way the effect and look is very good.

10/10

Dark Ryu Says:

I had a dream like this a few weeks ago...

FyreNWater Says:

awesome! i admire those that can pull off the cross-hatching technique. i always seemed to make mine look horribly messy... >_<

Phantom shadow Says:

awsomness to the max!

shinran Says:

holy crap that is awesome! I always make unfixable (is that a word? lol) mistakes everytime I try using ballpoint pen... This made me stare. Staaaaaareee for a long while. Examined the details, one by one...
This is incredible. I must fave this.

Veestah Says:

Doesn't really say 'hell' to me, except maybe for the frizzled brushes, but that title has a ring to it.

I agree on the pens, they have a character all of their own. Some of my better doodles were in ballpoint at first. They can stand alone like that too, which is nice. Although you have to search for a while to get JUST the right pen. The normal stick bics don't do it for me... needs nice ink flow with only minor skippage for that unique flair.

I rant, therefore I love.

It's so good!!!
