Winter Begins in Maryland

the telly\'s light is soft and scant
children wait for him to incant
telling the school it simply can\'t
instruct them with another rant.

springtime has its BB guns
summertime, the field-length runs,
in fall the leaves raked in by tons
and winter, pleasant cornbread buns.

it\'s cloudy outside, but still so bright,
the snow catching the gleaming light
as the chill air waits for its time to bite,
when the day ends, and dark brings night.

thermometers for the ones in bed,
chocolate for the cold instead,
stew for the youthful underfed,
hats for the balding elderly head.

the time is nigh, the snow is deep
as we rejoin our snowy keep
up and at them, ready to leap
a snowball fight, when fun was cheap.

This was a refined writing exercise we did for class. I'm turning it in with my portfolio today. Basically, he gave us the title - [SEASON] begins in [YOUR HOMETOWN]. We had to take it from there. This didn't rhyme at first, but I decided it worked better with a clever cadence.

Very snappy! I love the whole homely feel of it all
