Gentleman Sinner
In the late eighties something extraordinary happened, but the ordinary type of extra-ordinary. A child was born. This was not the special thing, as most women do it at some point in their lives. The extraordinary thing was the mother. Her name was either Merry or Mary Sinner, depending on who you asked. She didn’t care as she couldn’t write and they were pronounced the same. She was from a longish line of Sinners who all lived up to the family name and were lucky enough to survive the consequences of their sins long enough to pass the name to a child or two.
The thing was that the child was born easily. Instead of a long, laboured process like her first two children, this child slipped out easily and without fuss, despite his size. And after he had been born, he quickly coughed up what was left in his lungs and started breathing without screaming even once. He quickly accepted a nipple and sucked hungrily. Merry had learned from experience that if she didn’t breastfeed her tits hurt quite a bit, the learning of which contributed greatly to the demise of her first child. The second child had simply been too much trouble and had been ditched. Mary was not the worlds kindest woman and had the maternal instinct of a snake, though she was friendly enough.
The child would later say that she had not loved him at all, simply brought him up because he never bothered her enough to make getting rid of him a high enough priority. He would say this easily and frankly with no sorrow attached. She would casually confirm it. Throughout his childhood the few attempts at good will towards him came usually from the men with whom she intermittedly tried monogamy with. That meant that they made a baby backpack for her to carry him in, the single item which made taking care of him easy enough that she kept him as a baby, and taught him various skills that he used to survive. These consisted mainly of thievery, combat, and diplomacy for when he got caught in the first two activities. All in all, the child survived and prospered in his own unique way.
