Chapter 17



Tala stopped looking back at Ulric "Part of Jon is gone" she said looking back at Eric who showed confusion. "Part how part? What do you mean?" Eric said getting impatient looking from one wolf to the other.

"It means that Jon is here but not in our realm." Ulric said.

"Realm?" Eric said sitting down ready for another question then he remembered the light in the wave and looked up at Tala, she seemed to of read his mind.

"You’re not the first to come here, leaving behind your loved ones and past life. We don't know why or how we come to be here but we do know it has something to do with Ayla." Tala said and the wolves nodded in agreement as Mat and Eric sat in silence trying to make sense of the island.

"Most of us are the children of the ones that came to be here, and it’s been along time since others came. I and Ulric came to be here more then 15 years ago." Tala said nudging the huge wolfs chin with her nose.

"I was but 16 at the time" Ulric said looking at Mat.

"And I was 7." Tala said as she cleared her voice and continued.

"We were going to the New World with our father after mother died and there was a storm..."

"There was the light, and then we were here after the wreck." Ulric said cutting into Tala's story but she didn't seem to mind she just watched him with awe as his deep hallow voice spoke gently.

"We were the only ones to come threw the light here and till yesterday the last." He said looking from Eric to Mat.

Mat looked at Ulric strangely "If Jon's in a different realm then how do you know?" He asked looking helplessly into Tala's eyes hoping for an answer but she only looked back, and then Eric heard the sound of a child laugh and he glanced over at one of the pups as did Tala. "Uldolf, hush." she said but the pup only rolled over to reveal his golden eyes that showed playfulness. "But he doesn’t know about Idola." Uldolf said laughing.

"And you don't know how to let your elders speak first." Ulric said pulling the pup over to him with his huge paw till Uldolf stared strait up at him from the front of his back.

"But dad." Uldolf whined back as Ulric looked down at him testily "but what?" He responded and the pup sat up between Ulric's front to legs his head not even close to touching his father's chest and looked at Eric and Mat. "Nothing dad." Uldolf said giving in, and a grin broke across Ulric face.

"What’s Idola?" Eric said looking at Ulric unsure.

"It's Greek for A Vision" Mat said looking at Eric calmly.

Eric looked at Mat with curiosity and back at the awaiting pack.

"Let’s go to Idola." He said as he stood and followed them into the dark woods, towards this vision that waited.
