***Note: It took me half an hour to write this description; PLEASE at least START reading it. If you have 0 interest in it, then that's fine, but at least read what it says. That and Sheezy was being completely retarded when I tried to post this the first time so it took forever to get it up.***
So here's the Noxi, a little critter I just came up with. The design and dimensions and stuff are off and pretty crappy, but I did this on an oekaki so what do you expect? Anyway, on to the information...
So here's a basic rundown of the Noxi. The little gem-thingy in it's forehead is actually a small gem - probably a ruby or something. It's fur and eye colors depend on what gem is in the Noxie's forehead, which is why this Noxi has a red coat and red eyes. The fur is lghter near the muzzle, paws, and tail tips. They're about the same size and weight as a lap dog. They're normally 3 ft long; about 1 ft 7 in from nose to rump, and the tails are about 1 ft 3 in long. Thier weight is usually no more than 30 pounds, and only more if they're overweight.
The special thing about Noxis is that they can transform into a much larger, immensely powerful creature called the Noxima. (Since I haven't really developed the Noxima much yet, I'll tell you how they do it.) This only happens under certain conditions that even the Noxis themselves don't know until it happens. It can be something as simple as a change in the weather (full moon for a moonstone Noxi) or exposure to a certain material/substance (blood for a bloodstone Noxi). Or, it could be a little more complicated. If a Noxi feels threatened or frightened, it could transform. If it feels a strong urge to protect someone/something, it could transform.
But the rarest way for a Noxi to turn into a Noxima is by free will. That's because Noxima transformation is unlearnable; a Noxi must rely on luck to learn how to do it for itself. Therefore, some Noxis die without ever changing into a Noxima. Many of these are the ones that can do it by free will. The Noxis with this gift must see many Noxima transformations from different scenarios before thier bodies and minds react just right and they know instantly.
The ability to transform is the most valuable skill a Noxi has; if they never discover how to do it, they are literally defenseless. Noxis are poor fighters gainst anything larger than itself. Small dogs and housecats are usually no threat, but they can still defeat an inexperianced Noxi. If, say, a Noxi living in a forest were confronted with a wolf and it couldn't transform into a Noxima, it wouldn't last long unless it could escape into a rabbit hole or go somewhere the wolf couldn't follow it - a Noxi's legs are too short and weak to outrun a wolf. But, if the same Noxi knew what had to happen to become a Noxima (in this case, let's say it has to fear for it's life), as soon as it would transform the tables would turn and the wolf would become the prey.
Although one would think that remaining a Noxima rather than reverting to a Noxi would be a good idea, the transformation doesn't last forever. If a moonstone Noxi saw a full moon and transformed, the transformation woudl only last until the moon was no longer visible or full. The same goes for free-will-transformers; although they can control when they turn Noxima, there is a time limit as to how long they remain Noxima before they automatically turn back into Noxis because thier bodies can't handle it for too long. Depending on the strength of a free-will-transforming Noxi, this time limit can be anywhere from a few minutes for the weakest creature to several days for the strongest beast.
Another reason Noxima transformation is so valuable is because of invulnerability. Wile a Noxi is in Noxima form, it cannot become sick or die, but it can take damage. If a Noxi is at the point of death, no matter what the normal reasons for it's transformation are, it can usually force itself to turn Noxima just to save it's own life, unless it was meant to die at that moment. This doesn't harm the Noxi when it reverts either - it makes it much, much stronger. For this reason, almost all Noxis are very bold and daring, and they love a good life-threatening adventure. If a Noxi has a mate, owner, friend, sibling, etc. that it cares deeply about it will almost always put it's life on the line in order to protect them.
...So, whaddya think? Long, I know, but I hope it was interesting. I'll get all my Noxi/Noxima information sorted and polished and I'll repost it with some nice arts. ^-^
