Amusing Writing: Specific Heat Capacity
...Determining a substance's specific heat capacity is necessary to find out to what extent a material can be heated safely. If for instance you wanted to boil 30kg of water(boiling point 100°C or 373.15K) you would work out how thoroughly you needed to heat it without doing so to the extent that the water instantly vaporises and reaches such a high temperature that the flesh of your body is irreversably lacerated and/or destroyed completely, as well as the clothes you are wearing while heating the water and the surrounding area. In those circomstances not only would you be in serious medical, vital and (for the damage to the equipment) economical jeapordy; but also the water would now be useless due to its vaporal diffusion into the air. As you can see, knowing a substance's specific heat capacity could mean the difference between life and death.
