I started this piece before the more recent issues of the manga came out and in any case, it's a slightly AU version of the characters anyway (as described by the person who commissioned me for the piece).
This is Gaara, Temari, and Kankurou several years from their previous incarnation and in different clothing. They've returned to the Hidden Village of Sand to find it deserted and in some places, in absolute ruins. Gaara is determined to rebuild it all and his siblings are proudly at his side.
Some of you may not like the new costume designs. If not, shove it. Though I'm sure you'll say something about it anyway.
Yes, that's Shikamaru's jacket Temari's wearing.
No, that is not Shukaku in the background wearing Geordi glasses.
I tried to do some interesting things with the atmosphere of this piece, depicting it as windy with a good deal of sand/other particles in the air. Thus, the discoloration of the sky and the apparent flatness/strange colors in the extreme background.
It's difficult to see in the smaller version, but Gaara has a lip-piercing as well.

I love the angle you decided to take on this piece. It makes it so very dramatic, even when the charactes are just standing. Very nice coloring and shading. Thanks for sharing this, I only wish you would share your beautiful art more often. LOL

I really like the way you composed this piece, and the flat colors are done nicely and give it the feel you were going for, I think. I -really- like Gaara's new costume. It is very flattering.
I like Temari's costume as well, though I could do without Shikamaru's jacket. Not trying to offend you! Just saying that I would like to see her outfit by itself, perhaps.
In any case, I like this picture. :3

I really like Gaara's laid-back pose. He looks so "meh," while Temari looks so focused... that cracks me up
(Gaara being laid-back, I mean). I had to search the picture after you said Shukaku with the Geordi glasses... I think the building looks more like Sin from Final Fantasy X. XP
Anyway, this is awesome. The colours are great, their poses are good, little details like Kankuro squinting against blowing sand make the pic. Great job!
