Rakka and Reki from one of my all-time favorite series, "Haibane Renmei". I decided to make it a sort of throwback to Michelangelo's (not the turtle, the artist/inventor) "Pieta" statue of Mary and Jesus, since HB does contain a lot of Abrahimic/Buddhist undertones. Oh, lovely undertones. :)
Well, this took me bloody well forever to finish. I kept having to fiddle around with the white paint on the background. And Rakka's face needed a few touchups in the nose category. I'm very pleased with how it turned out, though. Never call your artwork crap until you've given your all at creating it!
Pencil, color pencil, watercolor and Photoshop (for contrasting).

I've never heard of Haibane Renmei. That is really beautiful. I love their expressions! You did an excellent job, even with the background. People usually get bored at the background part. I wish I had a sliver of your patience. I get sick of my work after two hours and call it crap. How ironic.

I'm kind of at a loss on what to critique, mainly because everything just "clicks" so well, I can't really point out any particular aspect that stands above everything else.
That said though, I must congradulate you on the admirable shading work, as there is so much of it.
You really should be proud of yourself here ~ you did the origional work justice while putting a spin on it.

Nice, very nice. The artwork is amazing, you got the expression on there face done nicely. The pose of one of them holding the other is really good. The coloring is really good. You got alot onice details down with the colors. The background is a very good design, and colors are great too. Job well done!

i love the intricate detail in the background, and the theme is so touching... you draw tears very well. whenever i try to draw tears it looks like the person has some kind of strange tropical bleeding disease. ^o~
