Standards of beauty

Hi, I'm Starion Werewolf. Since everyone is so nice and friendly that I had to share my opinions with you folks. Since I'm attending a business school, I can understand a little about the marketing aspect of getting women and men to buy certain products.

I'm just rambling and ranting a little. Hopefully, the moderators will let me post this message. lol

I'm a old guy who doesn't like society's unfair double standards of beauty.

I honestly don't see what the problem of women having body hair or not wearing makeup.

I wrote some articles on shaving, but I lost them. Sorry. :( Here's what I remember:

What's the point of a woman or young lady shaving anyways? I think some girls start shaving when they are 12 or 13.

Some of my friends said it takes them 20 minutes to an hour to shave her legs. Aww. :( I wish society would accept women and teens with body hair. I see nothing wrong with a woman with pubic, underarm or leg hair. I don't see any good role models including celebrities or other famous people who have body hair.

Body hair is natural and beautiful! Who decides whether body hair is beautiful? It is the empowered woman who decides to shave or not shave, not the media or advertisers. It's sad that some young women are blindly following the trend to shave just because "everyone is doing it" or by looking at magazine advertisments.

I don't like shaving because I get red bumps and nicks. Icky. Even some guys are expected to shave. One of my friends also gets red bumps and nicks. The razor burn looks nasty on a woman's legs and pubic mound. Then the woman complains that her skin hurts. I'm like, "Then don't shave." Geez.

If I hear one more thing about removing hair from bikini lines, I'm going to scream.

Teens 13 - 17 years old are more likely to shave than women older than 25. Hmm. Maybe the advertisers and peer pressure are brainwashing the young ladies?

About makeup: I have a friend who must wear makeup or else she feels like a "ghost" I think she looks pretty without makeup. She looks kinda ugly without it.

I think a little makeup is ok. One of my female friends put lipgloss on me and painted my fingernails. That was fun. What I don't like is that woman and some teenagers are being told that they should wear makeup. Without it, they would be ugly. I wonder if women are required to wear makeup at a job?

One of my classmates said that she spends $100 on makeup at a department store. I have a better idea for her: Just get some lipgloss and save the rest! Money is so precious these days.

I think women without makeup look pretty! I love the natural look. I wish more advertisments would show more women who don't wear makeup.

I don't get the point of pantyhose. I remember a Pinky and the Brain joke about pantyhose:

Brain: "Pinky, Are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
Pinky: "I think so Brain, but pantyhose are so uncomfortable in the summer time."

I didn't know that pantyhose was uncomfortable in the summer. :(

Anyone know the point of pantyhose and stockings? I'd like to know. I think nylon stockings trap moisture in. Ick.

I'm not sure if society expect women to wear bras. What do you think? I haven't heard much about bras other than bras can be uncofortable. I don't like seeing women in wearing Victoria's Secrets underwear on TV or in catalogs. The lacy bras look nice, but they can scratch skin. Uh, what's the point of putting color or designs on a bra if a shirt will cover it? Hmm. Maybe the bra makers are appealing to women to make money.

I wonder if women are being forced by the media and society to wear high heeled shoes, boots and platform shoes. High heeled shoes can cause numberous feet and back problems. Stilettos and shoes with a pointy toe are more dangerous than regular high heeled shoes. I've seen women and young college girls trip while they are walking up stairs. Apparently, the edge of the step becomes caught between the heel and toe. :( I think some women buy high heels so that they their legs look better and they look tall. Um, I don't really care how tall a woman is or what the shape of her thighs are.

I know some ladies in their 30s who don't wear makeup, dresses or high heels. They look great! They're not thin or tall either.

I think some young teens shave, buy and wear highheels, makeup and fancy clothes to feel like adults. I know some do it by choice, others are unfortunately influenced by the media but not their own minds.

I wish I could meet some young ladies who don't shave, wear makeup or highheels. The advertisers should show these kinds of ladies in advertisements. Actually, I might draw someone like that. Lol!

I gotta go now. Thanks for reading my post. I'll write some more in a week or so.

shyisth Says:

I don't shave or wear makeup because shaving is time-consuming and sometimes painful, and makeup looks silly on me And high heels are just damn uncomfortable. So far nobody has complained except for a select few guys who think I'll look "prettier" if I shave and put on makeup. Still haven't done so and probably won't.

Really, I don't want to look "pretty". I like how I almost look like a boy Great essay!

Hell Says:

If only an essay could undo a century of cultural definition.

Ze Zombie Bunneh Says:

You are like, reading my mind! I totaly with all your points. ^-^

Froggie Says:

This is really great. I somewhat disagree with not shaving, the hair bugs me. I think it's fine to not wear make-up, so.

Anyway, great essay! I'd love to see this entered in a contest or something.

Mireiyu Says:

I only wear high heels at formal occaisions, the same with make up (but even then it's not much, annoying stuff) as for shaving, I acutally like shaving, it's nice having smooth legs... but that is my opinion,
very nice essay!
