High heels can be dangerous

I wonder if women are being forced by the media and society to wear high heeled shoes, boots and platform shoes. High heeled shoes can cause numberous feet and back problems. Stilettos and shoes with a pointy toe are more dangerous than regular high heeled shoes. I've seen women and young college girls trip while they are walking up stairs. Apparently, the edge of the step becomes caught between the heel and toe. :( I think some women buy high heels so that they their legs look better and they look tall. Um, I don't really care how tall a woman is or what the shape of her thighs are.

Cost: $50 - $200 USD for well known brand names.

High heels can cause these kinds of problems:

Balance shifted - weight shifted to toes instead of foot's heel. Unable to walk naturally in high heels.

Strain on the lower leg muscles, lower back, spine.

Damaged soles, enlarged ankle joints.

Blisters, ingrown toenails, poor performance in sports and distraction from classroom work.

Pointed toe boxes can hurt toes.

Callous (hard skin) and corns, hammer toes, pain in the ball of the foot and painful bunions, heel pain, toe deformities, shortened Achilles tendons, hammertoes, arthritis, chronic knee pain, sprained ankles, tendinitis, osteoarthritis and trapped nerves.

More pressure on the toes than usual.

Injuries to ankle, knee and hip joints. Stiffness and pain in joints.

Position of foot and narrow heels cause stability problems when walking. Ther woman wearing needs to take shorter steps.

Bad posture? You need to bend your back backwards to keep your balance. Your toes and ball of your foot carry more weight than it usually does.

Bump at back of heel called a "bump pump."

Muscles to work harder when in high heels. There is extra strain on the knee joint and tendon that runs from the knee cap to the thigh bone.

Plantar fasciitis

Ankle equinus:
Shorter calf muscles. Wearing high heels for six months or to a year may result in shorter calf muscles. Older women who wear high heels have trouble wearing and walking in flatter shoes. The may suffer from permanently shortened calf muscles and Achilles tendons.

Calf muscles and Achilles tendons can become temporary or perminatly short.

Pain in achilles, back and neck.

Toes are bent in the middle of the foot.

Calf muscles and Achilles tendons, ball of foot, high arch and ankle can become hard. Ankles can become locked into positioin.

Women wearing high heels can trip or fall.

interdigital neuritis: burning sensation in toes

A child's foot isn't well developed for high heels. A child's muscle may not be fully developed for high heels.

Just some ideas about the cons of wearing high heels. I'm guy so I don't know what it is like to wear them.

This is a really rough draft. I want to retype the draft this weekend. I hope I put this essay in the right place. I also need to fix the image too.

Well, I'm fourteen and I wear stilettos on special occasions. Sometimes for 6+ hours at a time.

It takes practice to learn to walk in them, and society expects you to be tall and lean. Me being 5'0" and having strong sturdy calves, I wear stilettos to make me taller and to make my legs the appearance of being thinner.

I love your essay, it shows you did quite a bit of research and it's very well-written. I agree with tripping up the stairs, the heel does get stuck and it's quite bothersome. You have to walk a lot slower than normal, to make sure you don't trip. I would as you said, fix this up a little, but it's great so far.

Awsome essay, more reasons not to wear thoose shoes. Personly, I hate them And society sucks, not everyone should be 6'6" and 96 Lbs.
