"I think this is one of the very few pics that has turned out pretty much the way I envisioned it. Whch is...scary. Even scarier is the fact I must have downed about 6 cans of Dr. Pepper in the process of making this pic, whether it was in symbolic tribute or sheer spite, I haven't got a clue.

This is a fanpic/giftart for the awesome Jen Irwin (of ROTFW/FB20XL fame) based upon her fanfic, "An Unlikely End." In my opinion this is one of the most touching and well written fanfics I have read recently, and a perfect opportunity to capture it in visual means.
"Through his weakening sobs, Ivo managed to say, "S-ssonic... thank you... I d--... I didn't have to die... alone..."
A final ragged breath shuddered through his lungs and turned into a weak sigh as Ivo finally relaxed... Life abandoned his body as his head dropped slightly to the side."
Those last lines are my primary inspiration; as I was trying to capture the moment in which Ivo passes away. The expressionism is damn well hard to capture here, cos you can't really picture a situation as unique as that, unless you've been there yourself...Sonic is trying to hold back the tears, his fists clenched to emphasise both it, and his inner strength while Ivo has a relaxed, but pain filled expression to show the drama, and sum up the agony he's been through. It's acceptable in my book, but to be honest I think I could've done better. I've gone for the ROTFW Ivo look, as I felt the "Eggman" look wouldn't suit really, and Ivo is easier to draw in an emotive way.
This is probably the best ever attempt at the Sonic Team style, and I think I more or less nailed it perfectly on Sonic, yet Ivo could've used some work. As for the background, I've again tried to blend in some realistic photos to match the foreground and also add to the gritty realism of the scene. Personally I think this looks better than a drawn background would, but thats down to personal opinion I guess. I'm proud of the rain effects I've managed to create here, as well as the raindrops on both Sonic and Ivo.
