Names in Stone.
A flash of lightning brightens the sky above me as I walk a broken path.
The fresh white snow crunches softly under my bare feet.
I look through the darkness at all the names listed around me.
A random asortment of all ages, both children and adults.
My heart races as I come to your name, shining in the snow.
I struggle to catch my breath, closing my eyes tightly as a tear rolls down my cheek.
I picture you standing beside me, your pale skin glowing in the moonlight.
My heart sinks once more as I open my eyes and fall back to earth.
Your name like all the others, engraved deep into a block of stone.
I fall to my knees and trace over your name with the tip of my finger.
Longing to be able to hold you in my arms one more time.
I bring a single rose to my lips and kiss it gently before laying it by your side.
An uncontrolable feeling of sorrow washing over me as I get back to my feet.
I turn and walk back towards the broken path, looking over my shoulder one last time.
Knowing that we shall be together again soon, and forever wishing for that day.
