Here's the result of the first 3 hours of a project I'm working on of my joint-custody puppy, Harvey.
There's definitely a lot to improve upon, and critique will be helpful for the final version of this, which will be on 9x12 bristol.
His right ear (on the left side of the paper) isn't completed yet, so if it looks smudgy, that's because it is :3
HOWEVER, the left eye (on the right side of the paper) is bothering me. I want to make it look better, but that's how it looks in the photo I'm using. I'm way open for suggestions on that.
Apologies for the muddy quality, I still have no scanner so it was a photograph, but I really want some feedback on this to see if it could be made better. if anyone wants the link to the photo, I can give it to them, but the drawing isn't exactly photo-realistic, since it's just meant to get the general feel of the image.

About the eye...I think I'd just do it like you did the other one. Don't worry about the ref photo. If that's how it looks in the photo, and you want it different, do it however you want. I hate it when ref images look weird, don't you?

Well, as the above person stated, fix it to how you see fit. I remember the picture, and the way the eye was positioned did make it look like there was just a whooole lot of iris. So, go ahead and fix that up..make it look all nice and normal and such. Doesn't have to be precise, just very similar. =D
But it's looking awesome so far kachi! It should be great to see this when it's finished. *nod nod*

as far as the eyes goes it's not that the left eye is "bad" (though it does look alot less "lively" than the other one. i think that may be helped w/ a little light source and some shine. not a big thing.) anyways... it's not that it's 'bad' it's just that it's that it seems to be conveying a different emotion than the other one. you could fix this a) by just resaping it to match the other (fixing of coarse.. prospective and such) or you could b)find another referance source just for that eye. either way, you'll do fine, i know you will.
why is the puppy joint-custody?
