Spines
They always seem so fragile while inside fish,
the bones white and prickly and surrounded
by leftover portions of oily, smelly meat.
If someone were to devour humans they would
probably grow very full, though we are mostly
salty junk food, clogged arteries, and dreams.
And stripped of our tech, and deprived of our
cars we really are just hairless and senseless
and boneless and freezing cold little things.
Those aliens who enjoy making brief trips
to our humble, broken planet will be in for a
surprise when we fall without much fight.
