I'd have to say, this is one of the more-so impressive Sonic-typed pieces I've seen on this site. And that's a big thing coming from me, seeing as I'm only a little bit of a Sonic fan... if that.
He's a simply unique-looking character to me, and he's very good for a new character, indeed. Normally new characters come out shaky-looking for the first time- looking like Sonic, Knuckles or whatever, and then they get changed up.
But here I see that you're well ahead of any of those types of people. You seem to have thought about what makes him look like Sonic and what tears him away from Sonic. That little mark you've got on his chest and gloves... may I use that as an example? Nobody puts little symbols or markings on until later... You have thought ahead, indeed.
As for a glitch in the design- sure it does make the pants look complete, but they kind of take you back to Sonic a bit- the 'cuffs' on the bottom. I'm not saying you should get rid of them, because it does add... But it seems a little over used in the Sonic fanbase.
But the clothes, spines, hair, ears, and tail are all pushing him away from being in any relation to the actual Sonic character, to me, anyway. He seems like he has a characteristic that not many characters have these days...
And this might have been quite a ramble, but sorry for rambling in advance... and I hope it helped a little or made you feel proud of what you've accomplished!
