Shades of Twilight Ch 1 Pt 1

Chapter 1: The Quiet Before The Storm

As Aaron was slowly waking up, blinking a few times so he could see properly, he turned to his right and reached out for his alarm clock. He grabbed it and pulled it to him to see the time, realizing he woke up late he quickly got out of bed and ran for the bathroom noticing Lila's door was open, all the while thinking that his sister better had not tricked him again.

As he ran towards the bathroom he could see his sister standing next to the door and in one last moment of desperation he sprinted, hoping that by some miracle he'll enter first. Aaron soon found himself falling flat on the ground, his face hitting the carpet that was spread out through the apartment. There was a sound of a door slamming as Aaron slowly got up, looking behind him to see a small wire that was colored purple as it faded into thin air, Lila then shouted: "ha ha, you fell for the same trick two weeks ago!".

Aaron angrily replied: "yeah well… I won't fall for it next time"

"Yes you will, you also fell for it a month ago, your memory is really messed up isn't it little bro?"

"Yeah yeah, I'm gonna get me some breakfast but first…" Aaron said while flipping the light switch.

As he headed to the kitchen he could smell that something was being fried, he saw his mom standing next to the stove making omelets. As she noticed Aaron walking in, she told him: "your omelet is on the table and your school bag is next to the door"

"Thanks mom, it's nice to have one good person in the house" said Aaron as he sat down to eat.

"Yes well… with all the bickering you and your sister are going through I can understand why you would believe that"

As Aaron was eating he could see his mom lighting the stove, using a flame that was flickering on top of her finger, Aaron has seen his mother's talent many times yet he still got worried every time she went near a fire of any kind.

The sounds of feet stepping on a carpet were heard from the hallway that led to the bathroom, as Lila entered the kitchen "bathroom's clear, oh and let's not forget…" Lila then proceeded to smack Aaron's head from the back as he was eating "that's for the light switch".
As Aaron finished eating he ran towards the bathroom getting ready for school. After he finished getting ready he walked out into the kitchen and saw his sister and mother hugging and kissing each other while saying goodbye. Aaron waited until they stopped so he could ask his sister: "can I get a ride to school?"

"You have a driver's license, go save up some money and buy yourself a car." after which Lila left the apartment.

"Maybe you should use the Gravi-Kart?" Aaron's mom suggested. The Gravi-Kart, or GK for short, is an anti-gravity bus/train that operates within the city. Most kids think that Gravi-Kart sounds annoying and instead call it Fly Bus.

"I might as well take the Fly Bus, see you after school mom."

As Aaron was walking to the GK station he was looking around at the streets of New Tiberius City, the city always seemed like it was taken straight out of one of those old sci-fi movies. Many of the buildings are metallic at base and there are many anti-gravity vehicles driving in the make-shift roads, which are basically air with a few floating lights. The city is one of the most advanced in the world. As Aaron was walking he realized he could be running late so he began running.

As Aaron reached the small station he saw that he missed the Fly Bus and had to wait another hour for the next one, meaning he'll be late for school. Anger was filling his thoughts, that if his sister would have given him a ride or maybe not mess around with his alarm clock he could have made it. In his frustration Aaron smacked his fist into the wall. As Aaron looked around he noticed many people were staring at him with looks of surprise and shock, as he turned to face the metallic wall he noticed that it was deeply dented and slightly cut.

As he took a closer look he noticed there was a green gust of wind surrounding his fist that slowly faded out of existence, Aaron was completely shocked to discover he has abilities as well. He stood there with his mouth gaping trying to figure out just why his powers manifested now and not earlier as with most of these cases. Aaron knew that there are many people with such powers, his sister and mother for example, but they always discovered their abilities at the age of 6 or 5 not 17. Aaron was both shocked and happy to find out that he is after all a normal human being.
