I had a great Idea for a plot during the three weeks I took a (mostly) forced vacation from this site. I thought--out of nowhere, really,--there are tons of RPG's and fantasy plots out there that involve summoners and their powerful, magical partners that they command, but there's no plot involving these summons out there I've seen that has a summon as the main character.
Fuckin' Epiphany.
I decided I'd MAKE one, dammit, and I've been inspired ever since. The idea itself is loosely based off the plot of an RP devised by my GF and her BFF (best friend forever, not boyfriend. I'M her boyfriend), but only in that the character I got picked to play was a "summon" character based off of my own character, Steve, and that the main plotline was highly sympathetic to the summons.
In the most basic terms I can think of, I just took the underlying plot and most of the characters of my webcomic, "DART", and superimposed them into this plot. For anyone out there hoping to someday see DART as an animated TV series, this is basically about as close as you're gonna get. I redesigned the characters to be less simplistic and cartoony. I made them more detailed, colorful, and visually interesting, so I could make this into a truly great animated short series. It'll probably around 1 or 2 seasons, max.
The current web comic isn't going to end up being that long, either. I have no intention of making DART, or any of my plots, really, into an infinitely ongoing thing. I have a set plot-line in mind, and I won't deviate from it too much. It's not that I don't think of it as a serious work of mine, it's more that I try to use DART as a means of practice.
I'm basically using DART as a means to: 1)Become natural to creating in the comic medium through reader feedback and a bit of trial and error, 2)See how confused people get at the way I progress the story, and learn to adjust properly, and 3)Maybe make a little bit of a name for myself, so I may have even the tiniest bit of a fanbase for support when I try to move on to bigger and better things. Things where I get paid, for instance.
I got off-track a bit, but you get the basic Idea. It's magicy, colorful, and it has a 19 year old, "human" version of DART in it, who turns not into an herbivorous chupacabra, but, instead, into a metallic-armored raptor who funnels out green, magical mist in order to propel himself like a rocket.
:) I'll submit more soon.
