11. Celeste the moon sabre
.: Celeste the Moon Sabre :.
The smell of smoke started to creep about, strongly in the air, causing Celeste to stur. Her eyes flickered and her tail twitched as she awoke from a tiresome sleep. Beside her slept her eldest daughter Aida, and her youngest daughter Isis. The two cubs were curled around together.
Celeste's eyes grew in fear, she knew it was fire, and she had a strange urge to go and find where the smell is coming from.
Her suspicions proved to be correct. Tilting her head towards the open window, she saw the sky a brilliant orange colour. Just about half a mile up the mountian in which her home was based at the bottom of, there was a huge house and the sabre knew exactly who lives there.
Her own orange eyes grew wide with fear.
"No," she murmured, "Aida," Celeste poked her eldest daughter quickly, trying to wake only Aida and not Isis. "Awake now before I have to ring your name to the heavens child!" Celeste shook Aida a bit harder this time, causing her daughter to move a little.
"Mother? Whats the matter?"
"Aida, watch Isis, I shall return soon," Celeste said, kissing Aida on the head, and then kissing Isis's cheek. "I need to make sure Eleni's ok,"
"Aunt Eleni? Why wouldn't she be?"
"Nothing dear, just, stay in bed, I'm sorry I awoke you," Celeste smiled, and hurried towards the door.
Adia and Isis was sleeping in her double bed with her, and the three were once wrapped in a blanket.
Celeste hurried down the stairs out of the apartment building she lived in, and because she didn't have a care, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her, all the way up Mount Paradise towards the blazing home
Rushing past house after house, her heart continued to race as fast as each of her feet pounded at the ground. She didn't bother trying to dodge out of some car's way, as she dived over the bonnet, got up and continued to run. This was where she injured her ankle, none the less continued to run.
Her fears were realised.
"Eleni!" Celeste shouted, "My Lady!! ELENI!!"
"Cellie!!"
Celeste burst in through the living room window on the first floor, the room was full of intense heat and smoke. She covered her mouth as she lowered herself to the ground, trying to find someone, anyone. "CELLIE!!"
Celeste recognised the little voice, it was none other than four year old Ava, she'd hidden herself under the table in the middle, but, Celeste could only hear the young cub, not actually see her. There was no way she could, "Cellie!! I'm scared!" Ava cried, moving away from the blazes as they crept rapidly towards her.
"Hang on!" Celeste cried, she could hear the despiration in Ava's voice, she was scared, and needed to be held close.
Glancing around, Celeste noticed there was some wood that hadn't been devoured by the blaze, foolishly enough, Celeste took hold of it and threw it towards Ava. "Grab it my dear!"
Ava grabbed the end, and Celeste took the frightened cub close to her chest. Her white hair was near enough grey with ash, and her eyes were red from the smoke.
"I want my mum!!" Ava screamed as Celeste crouched low, and headed back out the way she came.
"My dear, I need to get you out first, then I'll find your mother and brother!"
"MUM!!" Ava cried, her eyes were now filling wih tears as Celeste carried her out.
The hungry flames continued to engulf where Ava once sat in sheer horror, awaiting the blazes to remove her quickly.
The fire brigade were called, and the flames slowly died down. Ava sat in the back of an ambulance with a blanket around her tiny body, held in Celeste's arms. Her eyes were puffy from tears and she wore an oxygen mask. "I want my mum, where is she?!" she asked shakily to beaver who'd walked over with a helmet on his head, but a vacant expression on his face. "Is she alright? Can I see her?"
Ava's eyes blinked a few times, the beaver turned her face to Celeste. "Where's mummy!!?" she continued to ask, her voice becoming more and more aggrivated.
"My I speak with you for a second Miss Celeste?" the beaver asked, he wiped his brow and took off the helmet.
Celeste nodded, "here darling, wear this for a bit, hey Marty, watch the kid will you please?!" he shouted to an echidna was trudged over and scooped Ava into his arms and entertained her for a bit,
"Please tell me she's....?" Celeste tried to ask whilst holding back tears.
The beaver lowered his head, "Oh God no,"
"Her brother had died sleeping in his bed, inhaling the smoke as the doctor said, and well, the mom," he stated scratching his right ear. "The Lady we couldn't save, she inhaled too much smoke and died a few minutes ago," he lowered his head, and his ears backed down as he saw the frightful look in Celeste's eyes. "I'm so sorry, we tried to save her,"
Celeste was shaking, she fell to the floor on her knees and started to bawl. Her head was in her hands, and she couldn't dare face Ava, not now.
"I got here fast enough to save her, what should I do?!" Celeste cried,
Ava heard her crying,
"Cellie!!" Ava jumped down from Marty's arms and ran to the tiger, "don't cry, when I see mummy, she'll make you laugh," Ava smiled, so innocently.
"You'll need to tell the kid sooner or later Miss, she can't not know,"
"Oh, God," Celeste tried to turn away from Ava, but the little cub kissed her cheek. "Ava honey, Aunt Cellie needs to tell you something sweety," she managed to speak without bawling, yet.
"Is it about my mummy?" Ava asked, her ears were droopy, and the blue ribbon she did were in her hair was lopsided.
"Ava, mummy won't be waking up," Celeste whispered to her,
"What? I don't get it Cellie,"
"Ava honey, mummy's gone to sleep with the angels now, she's sleeping," Celeste tried to say this, whilst watching Eleni's body being bagged up.
"Can I speak to her and tell her I love her? Can I wake her up?" Ava asked still confused.
"Darling, mummy's not going to wake up ever again,"
Ava's eyes grew in dread. She knew that term, it ment she was dead.
"I want my mum! MUM!!" Ava shoved past Celeste and ran to the stretcher that carried Eleni. Her mother looked like she was still sleeping, "Mum!! Wake up, it's Ava!!" she smiled, but tears fell from her eyes, "mum," Ava shook her shoulder. But, ofcourse, Eleni wouldn't budge. "Mummy, I love you, I always will,"
She kissed her mum on the cheek, which was cold. "Mummy?"
Celeste took Ava from Eleni as the dead fox was being placed in the back of a private van.
"And, darling?" Celeste completely forgot, but, she knows that Ava's already heart-broken enough,
"WHERES' CLAYTON!!?" Ava screamed,
Celeste cried,
"He's gone Ava!! I'm so sorry honey," holding the screaming four year old close to her chest, Celeste could understand very well how alone Ava must of felt, because she as a cub watched her own mother and father get shot before her.
"Clay Clay!! MUMMY!"
The pitch of her cry sounded so desparate, so, lonely.
Celeste held Ava close, "I want to see Clayton," she whimpered, the tears were streaming down her white cheeks, but Celeste felt that she was flustered.
"There he is honey, say good bye to him," Celeste was so tired, she couldn't even talk propery anymore.
Just before them now, Ava watched as her brother Clayton Night was being placed in a body bag too.
"CLAY CLAY!!" Ava ran to his stretcher, and kissed his cheek. "I love you, Clay," she hugged his cold body, then let him go.
"Come on darling," Celeste waited until everyone had more or less gone, giving herself and Ava a chance to accept that two innocent people were dead by accident. "Let's go home,"
Bending down to read for Ava's hand, Celeste smiled, though the tear-tracks on her face still looked fresh.
"No," Ava whimpered, she had wrapped herself in a ball and covered herself in her blanket and had managed to save her brother's bracelet and her mother's scarf, both which she's put on and wore as her own.
"Honey, I need to take you to my home, you're going to live with me now," Celeste said softly, "I'll look after you as best as I can,"
Ava crawled out from under her blanket, she looked exhausted.
"I want to wait for mummy to come home,"
"Ava, mummy's not coming home, not now, not ever," Celeste felt deep saying this, but she felt she needed to tell Ava a truth, something which has had a dramatic effect on her life.
The little girl glanced up and ran to Celeste, her eyes no longer produced tears. She was too tired to cope. Hugging Celeste, Ava, still clutching her blanket, fell asleep in Celeste's arms.
