The lighting looks just about spot on, I think this would look great with slightly more dramatic lighting, tapering off into a complete black instead of deep teal, also making the light hitting him more focused on his face, arm, and a bit of his upper torso.
Course that's just an opinion, as far as actual critique I'd say that your hand is a little small, and unshapely.
Easiest way to get good proportions is to compare body parts to other body parts, the hand takes up about half of the face. :3
Sorry if it sounds overly critical, I have a tendency to do that to pieces I like a lot. I like this one especially because of the soft calm feel it has (both in the drawing, and he colors chosen). I also love the bit of escapism in the magical aspect of it.
