This was a theme assigned work to base a piece off of another form of artwork other than painting or drawing-- I chose one of my favorite subjects, which is Japanese Textiles, and incorporated design, dying, and material techniques (such as shibori and embroidery) that is commonly used in Japanese Textiles. This piece includes metallic embroidery threads, and the chrysanthemum and sakura are in gloss with a metallic green shimmer over matte and metallic paints. This painting is really much more vibrant in person and did not photograph well.. you can't see the embroidery on it at all.. so... I really like this piece though.. I don't think I will paint over it and I hope to explore the subject more.
