Your friend...

Years have passed since I've seen your face.
Taken for granted, a commonplace.
Childhood games, a knock at the door.
It was simple, friends, nothing more.

All day spent at each others houses.
parents and friends joke, that, we're spouses.
so much would I have wanted for my feelings to soar.
But no... I am a friend, nothing more.

It was obvious you liked me, I don't see why.
In my childhood ignorance, I was deathly shy.
A mentioning of feelings, stupidly, I would ignore.
But... heh...we're friends, nothing more.

One day you are gone, I'm lost, I feel dead...
Not knowing if you are alive, rumors spread.
I should've of told you how I felt, how much I adore.
But of course... I was a friend, nothing more.

You show up in the night, crying, afraid.
A victim of life's cruel games it has played.
We sit for hours talking, out front of my door.
Just being a friend, a shoulder, nothing more...

A year slips by, then one fateful night.
A message I receive, it gives my heart fright.
You are to be a mother.. my feelings ... tore.
"Congratulations," says the friend... nothing more.

Days later I crack, I can't hold it back.
My true feelings come forth, a weak point, a crack.
Tears, feelings, memories pour.
I never wanted to be a friend, I wanted more.

Alas, you have a family, a child, soon grown.
You are truly happy, alive, while I... alone.
Ignorant child, blind to feelings, shy to the core.
Forever a friend... nothing more....
