Chapter 12- Double Ninja Duel

When the Sonic Heroes entered the next room, they stood in awe. It was decorated with many different plants that you could see in a Japanese forest; a perfect place for Espio to fight Agent 7: Kantata the Gecko.

Sonic whistled at the sight. “Nice place!”

“Why thank you. I should agree as well,” came a calm voice and soon Kantata jumped down from the ceiling, almost as if she came out of nowhere, with her twin blades sheathed and strapped onto her back

“Allow me the honor of introducing myself, I am Kantata. Or just simply Agent 7 will do.”

“Always with the politeness, hm Agent?” Cliff’s voice said as he walked out from behind some bamboo.

“Of course, for it is what my sensei taught me; ‘Show courtesy before a duel in order to make an impression on your opponent’ as he always shown before we practice our techniques.”

Espio soon stepped up. “I see he taught you well. My name is Espio and I shall your opponent.”

“I see,” she said calmly before closing her eyes. “Well then, I” at this point her eyes snapped open to show her fierceness “accept.”

She put up a barrier in front of the others before dashing off into the forest, arming herself with one of her blades and jumping up into a tree. Espio was aware of her ability to sense his invisibility and came prepared for an occasion with a special charm sent to him from his old village overseas hidden underneath one of his armbands that would cloak him completely, but he didn’t use it right away or let her see it. Instead he armed himself with two of his large shuriken and dashed off after her.

As he struck, she defended herself against her blades and pushed him off, just as he nimbly landed on his feet. She struck next, but he defended himself this time, keeping the game at a stalemate.

Espio kicked her off and dashed into the trees, trying to find a good spot to activate the charm. However, Kantata recovered quickly and was hot in pursuit, making him growl in frustration as he threw small kunai daggers that she deflected with ease.

She soon jumped up and struck down at him, thinking that she won as she hit the target. She only met with disappointment when he changed into a log in a puff of smoke, unfortunately. This gave Espio the chance he needed as he went invisible and the charm activated to give him a stronger cloak, allowing him to silently wait for another chance to strike.

Agent 7 knew he was invisible and tried to sense him, but she didn’t know about the charm or how powerful it was and couldn’t sense him at all!

Espio saw this as his chance and launched an attack of kunai at her, moving all over the place to confuse her more.

She soon took out her other blade and started to deflect the daggers as she thought to herself, *This is impossible! I was trained to sense any chameleon! Could he have a special item to cloak him more?*

She grunted in pain as a dagger grazes her arm and jumped into the trees again, hoping to find him before he found out her personal weakness.

Espio was hidden in the bamboo below her and he jumped up, revealing himself and catching her off guard as he attacked with his shuriken again, causing her to fall to the ground on some flowers and scattering pollen.

*Oh no!* she thought again as she tried to hold her breath and run off, not knowing that Espio used a small twister of wind to make himself invisible again, scattering the pollen more, and chased her like she did to him.

She continued running, as she let go of her breath, suddenly sneezing when some pollen got into her.

*Huh?* Espio thought as he heard the sneeze and stopped running as he put two and two together. *So THAT’S her weakness! She has allergies! And here I am thinking Charmy was the most pathetic opponent!*

*This is bad, this is bad!* she thought between sneezes as she fumbled for her mask and tied it on, not knowing her allergies already weakened her a bit until Espio spoke.

“Too late Agent 7! I already know your weakness!” he said as he let out another storm of kunai, the same way as he did before, but a bit slower to give her a chance to fight.

She did her best to deflect the daggers again, but her allergies were already making her loose concentration and as the last kunai was thrown, Espio suddenly appeared in front of her.

He knocked her blades out of her hands as she stood there stunned and she soon said the words he wanted to hear, “I surrender.”

She put down the barrier and the others rushed up to congratulate Espio, who didn’t look all that victorious as he remembered what happens to the losers.

The others soon caught his drift as she fell down a hole in front of him, which was another trap door activated by the superior ferret, who was grinning darkly.

“Well done! The standings so far for you 8 are 2 wins and 0 losses. But this is far from over as the next agent is stronger than this one. Go on and show him what you have.”

Knuckles looked at the opening door with determination as he led the others through it, cracking his namesakes in the process to prepare himself before the doors closed.

Cliff soon activated his communicator on his collar. “This is Cliff. Has the failure made it to the other end?”

“This is Fog. Like Scope she too disappeared partway down! We are still investigating!”

The communication was cut off as he growled in thought before he left for Midnight‘s room. *Could someone else be helping?*

His answer was of course a “yes” as Nack and Vector pulled in Kantata, Rouge tended to the cut on her arm, and Scope gave her some allergy medicine while filling her in on the news about the superiors.

“What low snakes in the grass!” she loudly whispered after she heard that she was a pawn. “I now have faith in the ARK siblings and their friends on winning!”

“Yeah well this place is going to get pretty cramped pretty quickly if you don’t leave until we tell you to come back,” Rouge said “Some of the others are outside and are going to defuse that missile if you could help them out. We will handle the rest of the losers that fall through the floor.”

“It shall be done in order to remove this tarnished stain on my honor.”

She soon left through the vents to meet up with Tails, Amy, and Charmy in order to defuse the missile incase the superiors decide to blow up Station Square anyway and the four that was left went deeper in, praying that Knuckles will win against the sixth Agent.
