The Middle (Just the Beginning)
To a world between, not quite in darkness, but not quite in light, either, there was made a man of pride, and beside him, a brother of jealousy. The man of pride found the love of his life in a different place he had discovered; somewhere where light and dark never quarreled, but coexisted. She called herself a human, and, unsure of what to call himself, he gave himself that title as well. She said she had come from Earth, and he called his home The Middle. She thought he was an alien, he thought she must have been an angel spawned from the light. They fell in love, like any two people destined to be, and the woman abandoned her Earth to live in a place no one like her knew about or believed in. A place where lost souls gathered of light and dark nature, and fought with each other. A war-waging place called The Middle, that her newfound lover looked over as ruler.
Now, somewhere through this, you’ll notice that the man’s brother was never mentioned, and that was no accident. The man’s brother was one of a greedy and jealous nature, as previously stated. He was born out of dark, and his brother born of light. Foolish and good natured, the brother of light saw no faults in his kin. He loved his brother as a sibling should, through the glory he had as a leader in The Middle. The brother of dark, however, feigned his love in return. He came to hate his proud brother of light, as he was rightly bestowed the highest position in The Middle. The brother of dark watched him from forgotten shadows, plotting the day his brother of light would fall.
No ideas of his brother’s downfall really developed until the day the child was born, providing a new heir for later times when she was needed. The brother of dark noticed how much love his sibling and the wife from Earth showed for his newborn daughter, and how much he wanted the daughter’s uncle to love her, also. The brother dark grimly thought as the daughter grew a little older under a human mother's hand:
If I get rid of his precious crystal, his weaknesses will be exposed, and then I can strike.
And that, my friends, is where our twisted tale begins.
