Prologue: Catrina's Beginning
Was this really over? Was everything just going to end here, after everything they'd been through?
Tears rolled down her pale cheeks as she stood on her balcony, resting her arms on the cool metal as she leaned over slightly. Her long, soft brown hair blew about softly in the gentle breeze that had picked up a few moments before.
Was he really leaving her now? She wasn't 100% certain about that. But she was certain he was breaking her heart more and more with each moment that passed.
He was walking down the street, away from her house, not even looking at her. He didn't even look back when she called his name. She didn't understand. What had she done wrong? Why didn't he want her anymore?
A strong but gentle arm wrapped around her shoulders, and she looked up. "Mama..." She whimpered, turning and pressing her face into her mother's shoulder, shutting her eyes.
"It's okay, Catrina..." Her mother spoke softly, wrapping her arms around her daughter. "Papa doesn't hate you. He just doesn't understand how I don't love Pokémon as much as he does."
Catrina looked up at her mother. "But Mama, will he be back?" She asked, tears in her eyes.
"I don't know, dear." Her mother replied. "I honestly don't know if he will be or not..." She gently brushed some strands of hair from her daughter's face, trying to comfort her.
"I can still be a Pokémon Trainer, right, Mama? We can still go see the Professor tomorrow?" Catrina asked.
Her mother just smiled. "Of course. If it means that much to you, I'll help you become a Trainer." She responded.
Catrina just wrapped her arms around her mother, whispering a thankyou as she closed her eyes. She was now more determined than ever to become a Pokémon Trainer.
If she could show her father just how good she was with Pokémon, maybe he'd come home. They could be a real family again... just like when she was little...
