This is just a concept of a character in my manga I'm working on. I didn't make this character up though. My friend Moo made him a few years ago and I asked if I could use him in my manga.
So this is Razor (Moo named him). He's a cat fox sort of creature that can manifest wings to fly when he needs to. He can also change to any size between about the size of a mouse to the size of a big dog. From left to right: mouse sized, cat sized, dog sized. In the story Razor is Sushi's loyal pet that follows her through any trouble and helps and protects her in any way he can. He's rarely friendly with anyone else although he's normally ok with Ryoko. Sushi found him in the woods out side her home town when she was only 8 years old. He was badly beaten and starving. Sushi took him home and nursed him back to health. Ever sense then he has never left her side.
Even though this was supposed to be just a concept I got pretty detailed with the coloring. For the first time I tried a fur texture and a feather texture. I didn't use any special brush or filter. I just used two darker shades and kept stroking lines in the direction of the fur. I also used the dodge tool here and there for some shinnies. I pretty much did the same thing with the feathers.

Firebane Yamaneko Says:

It looks really nice, and Razor seems like a pretty well-rounded character. I hope to read your manga someday :D

Moo Sensei Says:

I find this picture a lot less saturated than some of your others. I like that, though, it's more realistic.
Your yellow skin is still yelloooooowww~~ D:
Razor looks so lovable in your style. ^3^
I especially like the coloring in the wings looks soft and real and yummy, which brings me to my next point. The sharp thick black outline on the soft wings looks really uneven.
It isn't that hard to change the color and make the outline less intrusive, remind me when I comeover and I can give you a walk through.
I like the fur texture too, and the gray-ish tones in the shading, again, it contributes to the realistic unsaturated look. The thing with the fur is, that it doesn't seem like it comes in tufts, like in real fur. especially undr the neck, it just seems like really long hair. Other than that, the flows pretty good for the most part, and texture really adds to the piece.
Great stuff.
