Invading happiness
She ran into an old building, which had been under reconstruction for over a year, and slammed the door behind her. Why did something this terrible have to happen on her wedding day?! Why?!
First Mike called he couldn't come because of something outside the city... and then, all Hell broke loose.
This day was supposed to be perfect. Pink flowers, gifts, a small feast, a car ready to leave for their honeymoon... all ruined by those things.
She spotted her reflection in a shard of glass. Short black hair, a white dress, pale skin. And tear-filled eyes. The tears ruined her makeup, but that was the very last thing she cared about. After all, those tears were being shed for her other loved ones. The ones who... were now dead.
She could see the horrible images before her eyes. First the small commotion caused by discussions about canceling the wedding, since Mike wasn't coming. And then... they entered. Terrifying in their dark purple armours and wielding exotic weaponry, they unleashed untold fury. Colours of all kinds filled the air as one by one, her friends and family were killed. Her father, falling to the ground with a hole in his chest. Her mother, headless. Her two sister falling in unison, their bodies split in half by an unholy blade. Not even the priest had been spared, the eyes of God being elsewhere, while his servant was being torn to pieces by the monsters.
And she felt like a coward for running. Leaving them there. Leaving them to die. And she had run. Run somewhere else, watching the city around her turn into utter Chaos. People running in fear, more of the monsters wreaking havoc.
People screamed for help. No help was coming. No heroes were to be found, not in this world. The outside was proof of it. Dark meteors rained down from the sky. When those hit the ground, hatches opened, revealing more of the demons. They were all doomed.
Suddenly, she could hear the creaking of wood. She was not alone.

Mike Peers crawled outside of his car. It had flipped and landed on its roof during the... the chaos. He froze in place when he spotted a severed arm, still leaking blood. A dark boot was next to it. A single look upwards revealed the rest of the creature's armour and flaming eyes. An axe pulsating with energy was in its hand.
“A live one, eh? Not for long. Say your goodbyes to whatever god you believe in.”
The entity raised the axe and Mike closed his eyes. Suddenly... he could hear sounds. Sounds of battle. And then, a scream, just above him. Something hit the ground. After opening his eyes, Mike identified the object as the thing's armoured head.
And there stood another being, whose eyes shone with green, along with many lines on its suit. Its three horns looked a bit strange.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes... but my soon-to-be wife! She's still in the city! Please, save her!”
“I will.”
After that, the being somehow hovered above ground and then flew towards the city at incredible speeds. Heroes existed, after all.

Her heart was beating uncontrollably fast, but her breathing was slow and silent. The closet's doors had small holes in them, undoubtedly made by termites or the like. Through those holes, she watched the humanoids who were searching the room. They knew she was somewhere in the building. It was just a matter of time.
And then, one of the armoured hands opened the closet and, seeing the prize within, grabbed her by the throat and dragged her outside. The creature then threw her to the ground.
“Look what we have here. A frail little human. But she's not bad to look at.”
“Heheheh. Not at all, Garod.”
She could see three. All armed with some sort of strange rifles.
“I say we could have some fun.”
“Oh, I couldn't agree more!”
Terror gripped her heart.
“N-no, please...”
“Silence!”
The humanoid raised his hand to strike her. But he was interrupted by a terrible racket. That racket was caused by one of the walls collapsing, as a being came through, ramming straight into the evil one. Both of them went through a couple more walls and then there was silence. Two rifles were aimed at the hole, ready to shoot any moving object.
Before the two could react, an orb of green energy came from beyond the dust and struck one square in the chest, electrocuting him to death. The last of the almost-dead trio started shaking. And the hero came out of the hole.
“You! First of the many!”
“Indeed. And here to provide dynamic entries and arse kicking!”
A blue orb was shot from the rifle, which the hero deflected effortlessly. His arms then turned into a pair of blades and the dark warrior was cut to pieces.
He then stood near her and offered a helping hand. And she took it.
“Who are...?”
“Darken. I suppose you are the bride I was sent to save?”
“Y-yes. Ellen Meiers... but who sent you? Mike?”
“If Mike is a your prince charming who I saved a mile or two from the city, then yes.”
The tears that left her eyes this time were ones of joy.
“You... you're an angel.”
“Nonsense. Angels are not as cool. Now, I believe he is waiting for you there. Let me clear out some trash and I'll lead you to him, okay?”
“Thank you.”
“Don't mention it.” he then crashed through a window, blades still drawn, “surprise, boys!”
“It's him! All guns, fire!”
Unearthly screams filled the air and she smiled.
Heroes existed, after all.
