Inspiration

This actually happened at a race in Fuji Speedway a few years ago:

It was raining torrentially and all the cars were behind the safety car, which was speeding at twice the limit for what it should be in the rain. Suddenly, it slowed down, causing all the cars to immediately brake and spin out of control.

Tetsuya Ota's Ferrari spun into a crashed Porsche and exploded into flames, leaving him burning inside.

Another driver in an RX-7 saw this happen, and hit the brakes and took his fire extinguisher, and ran to Tetsuya's burning Ferrari and basically saved his life. Tetsuya Ota survived, but had severe burns and blood poisoning from burning inside the car for so long - when they pulled him out, his visor was burning over his eyes. It ended his racing career, but he sued and got a ton of compensation out of it.

There's no hidden philosophical meaning here, I just think it's an amazing story.

Beautiful lighting.

Eduard Von Bock Says:

o.o Holy shit...a true hero.

I like those flames, but the smoke looks odd when it hits the car.

Tony B Says:

Indeed; a true hero.

The pose of the guy with the extinguisher seemed a little too straight, like he should be bending in some way, either back or forward to/from the flames, and convey a more dramatic effect, but the engulfing flames were executed deliciously, and you can tell that the man looks unconscious.

You're just amazing.

i really love the implied geometry of the car, almost like the car is entirely made of it's reflections.

also i found the story very interesting and prompted me to further research it, i couldn't imagine ota's feelings laying inside a burning car for 90 seconds.
