Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown - I Listen, I Rant, You R
Edward says (15:21):
I'm about to listen to a terrible album
wish me luck
I'm about to find out how terrible the new green day album is
Nath says (15:22):
=D
good luck
let me know
Edward says (15:22):
If you
want
Edward says (15:23):
I can give you a running commentary?
Nath says (15:23):
sure =] it will lighten the revision mood
Edward says (15:23):
hehe, awesome
Edward says (15:24):
Song of the century
I'm wondering what century
the song of the century is the song of
Edward says (15:25):
hopefully the one where everyone went deaf for a century
and so couldn't hear terrible music.
Okay, so now it's Act One: Heroes and Cons
Nath says (15:25):
xD
Edward says (15:26):
Track 2, 21st Century Breakdown
because Billy Joel decided to make a sweeping statement about the entire century after only 9 years in it.
Well, I say sweeping
but I think its just a generic, vague statement about the century
Edward says (15:27):
but with lyrics that try to make them sound topical and up to date
but the attacks and references are so vague
like, he hits out against videogames and homeland security
but in an incredibly vague statement
Edward says (15:28):
I tell you, if the rest of the album is like this, I'm going to have to look up new words for "Generic", "Bland", and "Shit"
Nath says (15:29):
Edward says (15:29):
I'm already two songs into 21st Generic Blanddown
and I'm wishing it was over already
the thing is, he's changed the tune about 3 times in this song already.
Edward says (15:30):
But they all sound more or less the same
and horribly bland
URGH KNOW YOUR ENEMY
I think I've already criticised this song and video enough
Edward says (15:31):
http://www.sheezyart.com/art/view/2056795/
Edward says (15:33):
I still laugh at how they manage to make a song with one fucking riff
some of the most generic lyrics ever
and people think its a good, different song
seriously, this song is one riff
Nath says (15:33):
lul
Edward says (15:33):
and the only thing that sets it apart from anything else is that he really, really poorly tries to scream
Edward says (15:34):
iViva la Gloria!
oh man
a piano
this is really, really fucking boundary breaking
Edward says (15:35):
oh, and they change the tone to fast paced guitars after the piano
every boundary ever has been broken.
because green day decided to make a song with a minute of piano, then fast paced guitars, the first minute of which is the exact same fucking lyrics as the piano segment
Edward says (15:36):
What is it with Billy Joel Armstrong and rhyming words with the SAME WORD in this album?
he's just done it for like, the 7th time
Edward says (15:37):
AND AGAIN
THE FIRST RHYME in Before The Lobotomy
IS HIM RHYMING A WORD WITH THE EXACT SAME WORD
Edward says (15:38):
AND HE'S STILL DOING IT
ARGH
Oooh, and he's done the exact same thing as iViva la Gloria!, that is, piano first minute
then guitars for the rest
Edward says (15:39):
with a riff that sounds mostly the same.
Edward says (15:40):
aaaaaaaaaand yet again... vague attacks are vaguely made against vague people
Nath says (15:40):
Edward says (15:40):
honestly
they could have named this entire album, every song made by them that
Edward says (15:41):
and all of their fans would lap this shit up
okay, the difference between this song and the one before
is that the guitars are slightly slower.
boundary pushing.
Ohh, Christian's inferno!
Edward says (15:42):
I hope its not a song making a vague attack against religion!
well, so far, its him just saying "christian's inferno" 10 times in a row
Edward says (15:43):
and when it isn't
its incredibly, incredibly vague attacks against religion
Edward says (15:44):
I don't think anyone has ever made a song criticising religion
I think they've pushed a boundary, there
Edward says (15:45):
OH MAN ANOTHER PIANO INTRO
Last Night On Earth will probably not sound like iViva La Gloria! or Before The Lobotomy...
oh, wait.
Edward says (15:46):
well, its managed to avoid guitars played at a faster speed than the piano...
Edward says (15:47):
fucking snooze track.
it sounds and plays like a GOOD band would be ashamed to play this in their sleep.
Edward says (15:48):
I swear to god, he just rhymed "You" with "you" with "you", then with "through"
Who the fuck wrote this shit?
Oh MAN ACT TWO
Edward says (15:49):
THIS WILL SURELY SHOW ME WHO'S BOSS
CHARLATANS AND SAINTS
TRACK: EAST JESUS NOWHERE
I BET THIS ISN'T ANOTHER VAGUE ATTACK ON RELIGION
I'M SO EXCITED MY CAPS LOCK WON'T DIE
Edward says (15:50):
oh, and.. unique, NEVER USED BEFORE EVER idea of soundbytes making a vague statement before your song.
Jesus christ, ITS ONE RIFF
AGAIN
Edward says (15:51):
in 8 tracks so far
I've counted 5 riffs.
OH MAN BASS
Welcome everyone to the only time you'll hear bass in the fucking album
Edward says (15:52):
You know, I'm listening to this, and all I can think about now
is how much better MCR are.
Edward says (15:53):
OH MAN ANOTHER BAD SOLO
I'M LAPPING THIS SHIT UP
Edward says (15:54):
OH MAN
THIS ALBUM IS UNIQUE AND CREATIVE
Nath says (15:54):
=D
Edward says (15:54):
PEACEMAKER
I hope this isn't a vague attack on war!
oh, for fucks sake, green Day
Edward says (15:55):
If I've somehow managed to second guess the messages of your songs whenever I've tried
you're really, really doing something wrong
Edward says (15:56):
...this isn't even a riff
he's just playing the same two notes.
oh, damn
Nath says (15:56):
LOL
man, that sounds SO SHIT
Edward says (15:56):
for a minute, i thought the guitar broke mid song
but no, its fine
I think every string broke
Edward says (15:57):
except the two he needed to play this song
Billy, look.
A lyric may sound smart
but it loses its smartness when you repeat it
moreso when you seem to repeat it 5 times
EVERY SONG
Last of American Girls:
Edward says (15:58):
...wait, this is a different song from something earlier on in the album?
Oh wait
its a vague statement against society
well, that certainly hits hard and deep.
Edward says (15:59):
and again
just one riff
Edward says (16:00):
oh, fucking jesus.
Nath says (16:00):
that sounds so fucking wank
Edward says (16:00):
oh no wait
here's the solo
//instrumental
aaaand
its the riff
in a higher key
as it seems EVERY green day solo/instrumental is.
Edward says (16:01):
Hi, I'm Billy Joel Armstrong
I thought we could make a boundary pushing album
but instead, I blew all the money on heroin
Nath says (16:01):
I tell you what music kicks the arse of green day
Edward says (16:01):
and shat on the cd.
ANYTHING?
Nath says (16:01):
City and Colour
Dallas Green flops his cock out all over the music industry with his acoustic
Edward says (16:02):
Oh man, I just didn't realise that it went a minute into the next song
Murder City!
Another vague attack against society!
Nath says (16:02):
AND THERE'S A NEW CITY AND COLOUR ALBUM OUT THIS YEAR
*JIZZ IN MY PANTS*
Edward says (16:02):
Well
I listened to 21st Century Bland Down
and I antijizzed
Edward says (16:03):
OH MAN THIS SOLO IS TERRIBLE
Nath says (16:03):
xD
Edward says (16:03):
its again, just the riff slightly sped up, and played in a higher key.
well, Guns and Roses are in competition now
Edward says (16:04):
oh thank fuck that song is over
OH MAN
the 5th PIANO INTRO
Edward says (16:05):
I can describe viva la gloria? little girl
the first minute sounds like MCR's Blood, but shit.
and then its just one riff
okay no
TWO RIFFS
Edward says (16:06):
its just one riff played to hell
then when its supposed to be the chorus
its a sliiightly different riff
yeah
Edward says (16:07):
ths mostly makes me wish MCR would hurry up and make their new album
and again
instrument break is the riff in a higher key
Nath says (16:07):
are you serious?
Edward says (16:07):
its the best way i can describe it
Edward says (16:08):
is that nearly every instrumental or solo in this album
is the riff played faster/slower
but in a higher key
Restless Heart Syndrome ANOTHER PIANO INTRO
Edward says (16:09):
okay, i've now officially begun to no longer tell the difference between this and most of the other songs on the album
Edward says (16:10):
this sounds almost exactly like another song earlier on in the album
I just forgot which one it was
because nothing is memorable
Edward says (16:11):
OH COME ON
HES NOW USING LYRICS FROM OTHER SONGS HE'S ALREADY DONE
and this solo sounds like static/the piano notes played quickly in a higher, fuzzier key
the only difference between this song
Edward says (16:12):
and that other song i forgot
is this one is "unique" because it has people going "ooooooo" in the background
OH MAN THE FINAL ACT
THIS ONE WILL TEACH ME FOR SURE
HORESHOES AND HANDGRENADES FTW
oh wait
its one riff
Edward says (16:13):
that sounds almost exactly like something else on the album
I could sit down for a day, and write the most boring, phoning it in lyrics I could, with vague attacks vaguely made by people
Edward says (16:14):
and green day would out boring, out phone it in, and out generic me
OH NO
He just tried to scream again
Nath says (16:14):
Edward says (16:14):
no facepalm can describe
Edward says (16:15):
his inability to scream
I can scream better
and thats being polite
"I'm not fucking around"
Neither am I, Billy
your album is shit.
OH MAN THE STATIC AGE
This song better be all static
Edward says (16:16):
oh no, generic drumming
check
one riff? check.
boring lyrics making a vague statement against something>?
alsoooo, check.
Edward says (16:19):
this song is not only terrible
but i thought it would have ended by now
oh man, please, no more.
but
i'm on the last 3 sonds after this
home stretch
Nath says (16:20):
wooo
Edward says (16:20):
=O AN ACOUSTIC SONG
AND ITS A GENERIC ATTACK AGAINST SOMETHING
Nath says (16:20):
I BET IT'S REALLY GOOD
Edward says (16:20):
well, I say acoustic
its one of those
Edward says (16:21):
mostly acoustic tracks
oh, jesus christ.
OH MY GOD THE RHYMES ARE TERRIBLE
THERE ARE ONLY 21 GUNS IN THE WORLD, AND I, BILLY JOEL ARMSTRONG, WILL SING ABOUT THEM ALL, RIGHT NOW
Edward says (16:22):
This shit goes on for 5 minutes?
I can describe how exactly it will go
mostly acoustic verse
shit chorus
mostly likely, a solo which is the riff in a higher key
Edward says (16:23):
oh wait, I forgot about the bridge which combines the acoustic and guitar in the chorus
while he tries really hard to get the point of the song across
YEP
solo was the acoustic guitar riff played at a different speed,m in a higher key
Edward says (16:24):
with like, a note variation so the guitar goes WAAAAAAAAA for about a second
just like
every
solo
in
this
album
Nath says (16:24):
F-F-F-FAILLL
Edward says (16:24):
is it bad when you can predict nearly everything that will happen in a song?
Nath says (16:25):
yes
very bad
Edward says (16:25):
oh, then you can pretty much mostly guess how this album goes
and American Eulogy
for the first 30 seconds
Edward says (16:26):
is actually just "Song of the Century"
Nath says (16:26):
xD
Edward says (16:26):
...the song played at the beginning of the album
literally.
Nath says (16:26):
fuck that
Edward says (16:26):
and then he's singing about something
i've long since stopped caring
but judging by the name of the song
and the fact he's said MASS HYSTERIA about 16 times
Edward says (16:27):
its about MASS HYSTERIA
Nath says (16:27):
Edward says (16:27):
and the death of American Society
but so far, mostly
MASS HYSTERIA
OH THE SONG'S CHANGED HALFWAY THROUGH
this is the thing, most bands will just not acknowledge the song changing in the middle
Edward says (16:28):
Green Day point it out
by naming each half of the song
so you KNOW it changes
but its just one riff
and him saying something
then saying "I don't want to live in the modern world" 6 times in a row
then something else
then that 6 times in a row
AND THE SOLO IS THE RIFF PLAYED IN A HIGHER KEY BUT FASTER
Nath says (16:29):
YAYYYY
Edward says (16:29):
well, its the riff to one of the two parts of the song
and again groundbreaking
Edward says (16:30):
he managed to say "MASS HYSTERIA" and "I DON@T WANT TO LIVE IN THE MODERN WORLD" over and over
at the same time
FINAL SONG
"See The Light"
ANOTHER VAGUE STATEMENT
I know I keep saying "Another vague statement"
Edward says (16:31):
but literally everything is him trying and failing to make a point or observation about something
society, war, society, war, something else
its literally just that
at this point
i've actually just lost faith in humanity
i've stopped caring
Edward says (16:32):
This song is just as forgettable as the rest of the album
the solo/instrumental is just like every other one
i don't need to tell you
He tries to scream again
the riff is bland
everything is bland as fuck
Edward says (16:33):
I've phoned it in now
I've done now, on the final song
what Billy Joel Armstrong did the entire album
Edward says (16:34):
AAAAAAAAAND
ITS OVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR
that was the worst 70 minutes I've listened to since Chinese Democracy.
Final Verdicts are:
-Yup, this was definatley an album, and what they played definatley resembled some kind of music.
Edward says (16:35):
There were definatley lyrics, guitars, pianos, bass and drums
and they definatley were used in the songs, which were all used to create an album.
Edward says (16:37):
However, the quality of all of those things
Defined Generic
This album isn't Genre defining, or music defining
it fits the descriptions of those
Edward says (16:38):
but the only thing it defines is GENERIC
However, Green Day did one good thing
They persuaded me that the only recourse in life now
Is to create a time machine
to go back in time, and stop myself from every hearing the album
or, from preventing the band ever making it
Edward says (16:39):
I think the first one is slightly more practical.
Avoid 21st Generic Bland Down
I'm off
LOVE
