DC: Scapegoat, Pt. 3
No POV
The BlackWarGreymon bowed nervously to the Murmuxmon. “I hope I’m not disturbing you, Lord Azazel, but I… um… I had to come see you.”
“I’m very glad you’re here, Samyaza,” the demon lord said. “I haven’t spoken to you since you were a Botamon, and the last time I saw you, you were a SkullGreymon.”
“Yes… I...” Samyaza shyly lowered his eyes. “I left Holy Angel Castle because… I Dark Evolved because of the hatred I felt towards YHWH, especially after Roark told me something he’d overheard Raguel and Akrasiel discussing…”
“What was that?” Azazel asked. “Did it have to do with me?”
The dragon man nodded. “Raguel told Akrasiel why you fell. He said that it was explained in your name… ‘Azazel’ means ‘scapegoat’ in one of the human languages and was the term used by a certain people for sacrificial animals. You were the scapegoat sacrificed to hide the fact that it was really YHWH who killed Lord Raziel and Lady Jophielle. All the blame was forced on you, and by casting you out of the castle, YHWH was also able to get rid of yet another Digimon standing in his way. Three birds… er, angels, one stone, I guess.”
Azazel nodded sadly. “I see… but I still don’t know why… That doesn’t explain why Raguel betrayed us in the first place.”
“He felt betrayed by you and Lady Jophielle,” the BlackWarGreymon replied. “He… He said he was hurt by the way you and the Lady seemed to just continue with your resistance instead of mourning the loss of Lady…” He trailed off without saying the name, but the other knew exactly whom he was referring to.
“We knew Akasha was still alive somewhere,” the Murmuxmon said softly. “Raguel wouldn’t believe us, and began to hate us for not grieving. But now she really is gone… but her data was saved and will be spliced with one of the Chosen Children. She got what she wanted after all – she’ll be able to indirectly help stop the PURGE through this human girl.”
“Does… Uh… Did Raguel feel any remorse for causing the death of Lady Akasha?” Samyaza asked after a pause. “He cared so much for her, but he was the one who ultimately cause her demise.”
Azazel shook his head. “He showed no emotion. He said that creature wasn’t Akasha anymore, thinking she’d lost her mind when she evolved in the way a normal VenomVamdemon would.” He sighed. “She didn’t lose a bit of herself. She was the same old Akasha until the very end.”
“I see.” The dragon man bowed again. “That… That was all I had to say, my Lord. I must go now, back to the other Virus Dragons.” After a dismissing nod from the demon lord, Samyaza left the castle.
Once the other Digimon had departed, Azazel sighed deeply. He turned his eyes to the Crest stone he had discovered only a few days earlier. “The Crest of Beauty… Jophielle’s name meant ‘God’s beauty,’ didn’t it?” He smiled sadly. “To think I’d find a Crest like that. And to think it belongs to the girl Lucifer plans on splicing with Akasha’s data… I can’t wait to meet her, and the other five as well.”
Azazel’s POV
In no time, Lucifer’s Chosen Children reached the Digital World. Sadly, right before they arrived, a weak wave of the PURGE hit Virus Castle, where all six Chosen Digimon had gathered. The Digimon weren’t destroyed… but they all devolved to Baby level. All the training they had gone through with Akasha and the others was erased.
Now that the Children are here, though, I believe this divine war will soon come to an end. My only hope is that it will end in our favour, with the destruction of both the DigitalPURGE and its creator. I wish to stay out of the war as long as I possibly can, but I know I will be dragged back in soon. After the owner of the Crest of Beauty comes to claim it, I will not hesitate to join my friends when I am needed. But for now, I feel that it is my duty to protect not only this item, but the Digimon in this area.
I now make a promise, in the memory of Jophielle, Raziel, Roark, and Akasha, that I will be the one to destroy Raguel when the time comes. And I hope that time will be soon.
