Daily Sketchbook: 07-18

After a short break for a few days due to computer problems, the sketches returned.

The sketch for the 18th was something silly... Ed from Ed, Edd, n Eddy, a cartoon created by Danny Antonucci. It's one of my favorite cartoons, the characters are just so wacky. Not to mention, fun to draw. Ed here isn't my favorite character, though what comes out of his mouth is hilarious. My favorite's Edd (Double D). I have a soft spot for smart guys, it seems.

If anyone's ever wondered why my character's foreheads seem to be flat (as in you can see both eyes clearly in a 3/4 shot) this was one of the main influences of that. Sometimes, in cartooning and in comic art, it's more important that the expressions be clearly visible rather than anatomically correct. If you run across someone who can draw faces, anatomy, buildings, etc. realistically and isn't, it's not because they lack skill. It's because they know what they're doing and choose not to. Big difference. Learn the rules. Then break them.
