Kanteca Chronicles Page 5
With a cluttering noise, Stryzecenneca, Zaire, and Luther all got up from their smashed table. All around them, warriors were still trying to gather themselves into groups. Some had even started fighting and were standing atop booths, brandishing swords against each other.
Ignoring, the common, they walked to the man who had announced the alterations earlier.
"You!"
he turned around to see the odd group of fighters facing him.
"Sign us up."
Each one of them took a moment to give their name and group information. After the few minutes it took to do so, they all went back to their broken table, with Stalne pulling up his own chair.
"So, if I may ask, how well can you fight?
"Well, though I can't use magic, Me armor was made from a mage in mine own clan, gives me magical protection. As ye already saw, I much prefer a Morning Star as mine weapon. As for actual skill? Well I'll let ye see for yeself once we get to the battlefield.
Stryzecenneca gave a sadistic smile. "You're very different from most other dwarves."
Zaire looked inconspicuously over to Stryzecenneca. The demon normally did not take such interest in others.
"Stry? Can I ta-
"OK! We have our teams set! We shall now begin. As I call your Team leaders names You should step up to the arena door and enter the arena. Ok, Zaire!...and...Scebi!"
Zaire stood as did the other three.
"Well this will be fun."
The four entered into the arena and filed up against the wall. Across from them were their opponents. From what Zaire could see there was an Avian, one of the subraces of the Voxish, and three humans, two of them in plate and carrying 2 handed swords, while the other appeared to be a mage.
Above, the roar of the crowd drowned out all other sounds until the P.A.. echoed into audibility.
"GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMAN! WE HAVE AN AWESOME SHOW FOR YOU TODAY! AND DON'T YOU FEEL LUCKY! INSTEAD OF OUR USUAL ONE ON ONES BATTLES, WE HAVE A WAR OF FOUR WARRIORS ON FOUR! GET READY TO SEE BLOOD PEOPLE!"
A loud roar powered through the stands and echoed with a heavy bass.
"CONTESTANTS READY? GO!"
As soon as the initiative was set, Zaire, Stryzecenneca, and Stalne set off across the sand filled pit with inhuman speed. Luther, unable to run, looked under his shield to read his book of prayers hidden underneath.
"Sister Luna, I ask that you smite and blind my enemies, punishment be mine. With that, a blinding light flashed across the eyes of the opponents, causing them to stumble and swing around blindly.
Though the mage on the other side seemed to have counteracted it and was already beginning to cast his own spell.
On the other side, where runners were advancing, Zaire caught the mage in his act. Letting the other two to deal with the three fighters, Zaire decided to have a magicka fight. Zaire altered his running course to aim straight for the mage.
Magic was an odd anomaly in this world. Only those who had an apt for it could use it, but no words were spoken, except in spells that were more advanced. All one must do is simply think of the base of the spell; Fire, Water, Earth, Substance, or Void; and use hand signs to alter how it is used.
Zaire began to think of fire. Once the mage was in range, Zaire pulled on hand back and then thrust that hand forward quickly. From the hand issued forth a simple but powerful ball of fire.
To counteract the fire, the human mage raised his arms upward and a wall of water was created to dissipate the fire. Zaire though, saw this and flicked his wrist upwards. The fireball lobbed a tight arc over the wall and was aimed for the mages head.
Meanwhile, The two warriors had been no problem for Stalne and Stryzecenneca, as the corpses lay dead at their feet.
"Am I good enough for ye?"
"Good enough yes, you will work."
Luther walked up behind the two. "have fun?"
"ooh Very much!"
From in the arena came a scream as a sign to show that the mage had died, Zaire standing triumphantly on his corpse. "Is it over already?
