Shadow of Darkness - Neon Ambush

Rain fell heavily onto the waterlogged streets as occasional flashes of lightning illuminated the sky. It was a night like any other; apart from for an ominous presence in the air, as if something was going to happen. Shura stared down at the deserted streets as she watched for her target. She stood perched on in one of the many condemned buildings watching the shadowed areas hidden away form the light of the flicking street lamps for any sign of the man she was supposed to slay. After three days of tracking down her target the time had come to fulfill her part of the deal and she planed to make good on her part. Everything seemed to go according to plan, but there was something in the air that made her tense. She sighed softly as she tried to distract her mind from the feeling by examining the streets, the designated time was drawing close and she couldn’t miss this time.

“The body is away from the guard.” A foreign voice echoed in her mind; however, I didn’t surprise her in the least. The voice had become normal after hearing it echo like a second conscious so many times before. She glanced up at one of the taller building to spot her ally waiting several blocks away; his purple hair barely noticeable in the darkness of the sunless sky. She had to admit for a stalker and a pyromaniac goof ball he had his uses.

The dark wolf spotted her target, a heavyset older man in an expensive suit. He wandered around appearing disoriented by the maze of city streets. A smirk formed on Shuras lips as she watched the man stumble about the drenched streets; her accomplice had done better then expected. With a silent sigh she melted into the shadows of the abandoned apartment reforming several hundred yards away just around the corner from her target. Shuras blue tipped ears twitched slightly as she heard the sounds of staggering foot steps edging closer, slapping against saturated sidewalk. Her muscles tensed as the sound became closer. Her hands started to glow faintly as she readied her fatal blow.

The wolf’s eyes took on a dark glow as she prepared to spring into action but the uneasy feeling broke her concentration causing her to hesitate. It was then when she noticed the strong presence heading her way, out of the corner of her eye she caught sight of a bright glow but the object was moving to fast. In an instant Shura found herself being hurled to the ground and smothered by something wet and lumpy. Panic shot through her mind first, not for her self but rather the mission that had been compromised by the sudden ambush. She tried to free her self from the neon person but the person wouldn’t budge. The person kept screaming incoherent babble her mind was too frazzled to comprehend. Her skin started to burn from where she landed on the asphalt only adding to the mass of confusion. The dark wolf tried to force her assailant off of her but the person was much stronger then her and seemed immune to her attempts to claw at their flesh. Finally she did the only thing she could and summoned up as much energy as she could and forced it out of her body in a sharp tangible wave tearing the glowing attacker away form her.

Shura scrambled to her feet, her breaths were heavy as she tried to reorient herself to her surrounding. She quickly looked to where her target had been and he was nowhere to be seen; the sound of frantic footsteps alerted her to the man’s escape. For someone so heavy he could run like a track star. Fortunately just as the man rounded the corner a glimpse of light cut across the alley as a blade was imbedded into the man’s chest, right where his heart was located. It may not have been gone as plan but the deal was complete.

Shura let out a soft sigh before the sound of scraping caught her attention and she shifted her gaze to where her attacker landed. He was definitely bigger than her in all aspects and the loose clothing he wore only enhanced his stature. He was dressed strangely and covered with neon patches of different colors. The man pushed himself up into a sitting position with ease, being thrown several yards into a solid brick wall. This only further proved his strength. A feral growl escaped Shuras throat as she clenched her fist tightly and stalked over to the man. Just because he was bigger, and most seemingly stronger then her, didn’t mean she wasn’t going to rip into him.

The wolf grabbed hold of the back of his hoody and pushed his shoulder harshly so he would face her. “Who the fuck do you think you are?” She yelled in an aggravated tone, it was obvious she was beyond pissed at this point.

“Last time I checked I was Shujo, unless that has changed in the past five minutes” He laughed as he sprang up, still holding the same childish expression. The light from the street full illuminated his features as he towered over her by nearly a whole foot. His dark blue hair was styled similar to her own only his hair covered his right eye and his bangs were a bright green and white. His wolfish ears twitched with excitement as his tail swayed uncontrollably behind him. Both had the same color as his roughly cut locks, dark blue transitioning to 3/4th of the way down to green and lastly white.

Shura was baffled by his oddly happy attitude, considering he had just be smashed into a wall and nearly screamed at by a very angry wolf that looked like she could take his head off at any time. However her glare and scowl never wavered. She clenched her jaw tightly ready to lash out at the man for attacking her but there was something oddly familiar about him. What? She didn’t know.

“Why the hell did you attack me? Did someone hire you to kill me?” She growled.

“Kill you? Why would anyone want to kill you? Why would I want to kill you? And I didn’t attack you, Silly. I just couldn’t help it! It’s been so long!” The man went to wrap his arms around the infuriated wolf but dropped down and sweeps his feet with a strong kick causing him to land flat on his back. Yet all the man did was laugh! It took all the self-control Shura had not to sink her claw into the man right there.

“Shujo?” A third voice questioned in a tone of awe.

Shura looked over to see Kito standing a few yards away, as if he had seen a ghost. Shura narrowed her eyes

“You know this basket case?” She nearly yelled.

“Y-yeah…” Kito muttered still in shock.

The man sat up his smile lessening some “You mean you don’t know who I am?” he asked staring up at the confused Shura.

“Do I look like I know who you are?” She growled back

Shujo tilted his head slightly, much like a confused puppy would. He looked over at Kito before smiling and spring back up onto his feet. “You know who I am right?!” He asked in childish excitement.

Kito only nodded still not believing what he was seeing. That was until he was “attacked” much like Shura had been moments earlier.

Shura was thorough confused when the silver wolf just laughed and embraced the odd man back. The two rolled around, laughing with glee babbling to one another so fast only they understood each other.

After a minute of being left out completely Shura decided to interject in oddballs’ rambling. “Ok what’s going on here!” She yelled.

Kito smiled slightly before getting to his feet. “Oh right, you probably don’t remember”

“No, really?” She snapped

Kito shook his head still holding the same smile “Shura, this is Shujo, he’s your younger brother. Younger twin brother to be exact.”

Shura just stared at him then at the juvenile raver beside him and chuckled “You can’t be serious.”

Shujo got to his feet “As serious as a fatal wound!” he smirked “What’sa matter? Don’t remember your own flesh and blood! I know it’s been along time but it hasn’t been that long!”

“There’s a lot of things I don’t remember” Shura replied in a flat tone.

Shujo tilted his head slightly before looking over at Kito. Shura knew by the look in the silver wolfs eyes they were communicating silently through mental messages. The two were silent a moment before Shujo blinked and looked at Shura, his over zealous attitude replaced by one of sorrow.

Shura relaxed slightly seeing he wasn’t as excited as before.

“Shura…I…” he started his voice much lower then before. He took a step forward, only to have Shura match it with one step back, her body tense once more. But the persistent wolf didn’t seem to get the hint. Instead he threw his arms around her before she could dodge his embrace, and hugged her tightly. Shura grunted slightly as her breathing became constricted. “Ungh… hey…” She grunted trying to get him to at least loosen his hold.”

Kito taped his shoulder “She does need to breath.” He pointed out causing Shujo to loosen his hold. Shura gasped for air when the pressure on her body was lessened. She took in a large breath of air and with it a good whiff of his scent. There laid the proof of there relation. No amount of cologne could mask a person true scent and with the sensitive nose inherited by her feral counterparts it was easy to pick up Shujo’s scent. It was very similar to her scent, too close for it to be a coincidence.

There was other proof his claim of kinship such as the similar facial structure, near identical hair and eye color, save for a few highlights in Shujo’s bangs and many others. Yet it needed no other justification other then the strong sense of familiarity she felt towards him and the near identical scents. Even if she had no memory of his existence in her life at the moment, and no mater how different they seemed at the moment, their connection ran much deeper and was irrefutable.

Kito watched the two closely, smiling slightly when he saw Shura relax slightly, accepting the inevitable. The quiet moment held for another minute before the rain started to pour harder and a loud thunderclap broke the silence. Shujo jumped slightly and pulled away, startled by the abrupt sound before he scratched the back of his neck with a nervous laugh.

Kito chuckled. “Come on let get out of the rain, before it gets any worse”

With a nod in agreement the tree started to head out, leaving the corpse of the targeted man behind.

Shura sighed heavily as they started back to her small apartment. She glanced up at Shujo then at Kito and shook her head with a slight smirk and muttered to herself. “Great… now I have two morons to look after.”
