This is a red Aun, which signifies it to be a normal predator Aun. There are two types of Auns, red and blacks.
The black Auns are very much like red Auns, only their intelligence have evolved enormously.
The Ferrians have been in a feud with the Black Auns for centuries on Ylem, over territories. Now at times a Ferrian might wander over to the Black Auns territory, and the Auns will be quick to kill them. And so the Ferrians feel they need to retaliate. Ferrians almost "hate" anything not Ferrian *l*. Not exactly, but they often treat them like inferiors, outsiders, etc.
This Aun is Yaki. At one point a pack of Black Auns trespassed onto Ferrian land, and started settling there. The Ferrians responded with killing off all of them. Jatekh came over this Red Aun, not knowing there was two types of Auns he was about to kill it when Zethymir stopped him.
Red Auns aren't rare, they are just very cautious. Now this Aun only a "pup" at the time, probably grew interested in the black Auns and stayed close. (presumed to be orphan and looking for replacement?) Zethymir had recognized the wounds on the red Aun to be that of the result of a Black Aun's attack. Zethymir isn't the most gentle of men, but something made him want to prevent it's death. Very fitting that an outcast saves and raise another outcast.
Zethymir lives in the end of an old pipe line on Ylem's south pole. It's from way back when they relied on fossil fuel, It was mostly restored and they built a small city inside it. And zethymir being as genetically messed up as a ferrian, prefers the cold. So he and Yaki hunts in the snow, it's a perfect place for both of them, you rarely find another ferrian out in that cold. So neither of them will be bothered with "looks"
The Aun was made entirely with a round hard brush and a "pompom" smudge.
