The Nice Guy: Part 2

Dan lay awake on his bed. It was dark out now and the only light in his room was from the moon, the VCR on his TV set flashed twelve o’clock. Dirty clothes covered the floor and garbage was thrown about here and there. He grabbed the remote from the nightstand beside his bed and pressed the power button. The TV flashed on but only a picture of static filled the screen.

Angrily Dan turned his head to stare out the window. He saw a familiar figure running on the sidewalk. Was it Casey? He looked down out of the window and debated jumping. He decided to lower himself as close to the ground has possible. He slid slowly until all of his weight was being held by the tips of his fingers. He released the windowsill and fell to the ground. He was dazed but stood up. His bare feet had cuts on them from the fall. And his arms had cuts from falling along the wall.

Dan moved himself to the side walk and saw her shadow running further and further away. He looked the other way. Nothing was chasing her, so why was she running? Why was she so in such a hurry? Dan decided to follow her. He walked slowly at first but when he couldn’t see her shadow anymore he ran at a full sprint. He went as fast as his bare feet would carry him. Every few steps blood escaped from the small cuts on his feet.

Casey finally came back into view. John was helping her into the window of his room. They were making out on his room.

Dan’s eyes were wide from shock. “C—Casey… D—damn… I… Damn…” He punched the wall of the house next door to John’s. Feeling like someone was watching them they looked out the window. Dan was gone. He was running back to his house with tears in his eyes.

Now back in his room the look of shock that was on Dan’s face was erased and replaced by sorrow, then a look of anger and finally betrayal. Tears fell from his eyes and crashed to the ground.

“This fiasco could explain why John was nervous earlier today…” Dan pondered as the scene of those two kissing danced around in his head. “I don’t know who to be angrier at… John for taking her, Casey for going to him even though they both know how I feel about her…Everyone knows how I feel about her… Or my own brother for being right… Damn them all…!”
