YAR!
Last September, as many may be aware, one tends to celebrate the holiday Talk Like a Pirate Day. My compatriots and I celebrated with a pirate party. Having already had the hat, I set about to make a costume to go with it all. A pirate costume, if you will. It took me a while to make, but I was truly very happy with what I came up with.
Shirt: made from white linen and off-white textured cotton with a little bit of stretch. The shirt tied in the front with 2 ties: one decorative and the other to cinch the collar. Elastic was sewn into the sleeves for that true pirate feel.
Vest: three layers (outer, inner, and batting) of polyester blends with external channels of boning sewn in for each section on the reverse side of the vest. The vest was grommeted and laced with shoe-string lace. The back of the vest has two darts that have, like the front, been grommeted and laced up to the shoulder blades for a snugger fit.
Pants: heavy linen pants cut to be extra baggy at the knee. Elastic runs through the top and bottom of the pants to make it one-size fits many.
Belt: a crappy belt made from extra material and a carabeener (sp?) I bought at a hardware store (and was overcharged for)
