Kanteca Chronicles Page 2

The long walk to town was in silence. No one talked as they walked closely together. The only sound came from Luther's clinking armor and the harsh vibrating sounds of cicadas.
Within an hour, Soshire came into view. The town had a perimeter of stone 400 feet in total length and and 10 feet tall.
As the three came within 100 ft of the town they were called out to.
"What is your business in Soshire?"
Zaire put his arms out to stop the others behind him. He stood tall and still so that the archers wouldn't have reason to shoot.
"We are here for food and supplies. We have traveled much and would like to rest in your town, and maybe..." He added. "...Participate in your contest."
After a moment's silence, the guards appeared to lower their weapons and began shouting orders. Soon after, the gate began to rise.
Zaire, Stryzecenneca and Luther continued their walk to the gate.
"You!" one of them pointed at Zaire. "What is in your bags?" He held a crude sword in his hands; a sharp tip pointed at Zaire.
Zaire slowly put his hands up to his bags. "Not much really, just maps, food, and such.."
The guard first appeared to not believe Zaire, but sheathed his sword, leaving heavy tension in the air.
"Alright then. Please forgive me sirs, but there have been reports of thievery in our walls. You'd best keep close and watch your possessions."
Zaire nodded. "Don't worry, they'd be hard pressed to steal from us.."
Luther and Zaire strode into the city as Stryzecenneca followed behind, but was stopped.
"You seem awfully suspicious, Demon." a guard said. The last word was said with an obvious loathing. "Why would a Monster such as yourself be travelling with normal citizens?"
Stryzecenneca stayed a cool calm. He made no move for his weapon but instead retaliated differently.
"Well, that depends," He said with his fear inducing echoing voice. "I could be trying to kill them, as you're suggesting. I could also maybe owe my life to them. I might even be after their souls." Sarcasm was oozing out of every word that came out of his mouth.
Tension between the demon and the guards was rising higher by the minute.
"But, to tell you the truth," Stryzecenneca said. "I travel with them because..."
The guards leaned in, eager to hear the sorry excuse of a demon.
"I feel like it, is that so wrong?"
Scowling in anger from the idiotic response, A guard yelled, "GET OUT OF MY SIGHT YOU FILTH!" And made a shoving motion with his weapon.
Stryzecenneca bounced happily into the city. As he passed the gates, he turned back and said, "I love you too, Scumbag." Though one might wonder if it was in sarcasm or not.
After he turned around, he hurried up to where Zaire and Luther were waiting.
"Miss me?" He asked
Luther and Zaire both turned to Stryzecenneca.
"Did you get held up again?" Luther joked. He made it sound as though it happened a lot.
Stryzecenneca looked away to his left. "Define 'held up'"
Luther turned his head inward, giving more of a threat. "Stry?"
Stryzecenneca notioned towards the previous guards with his head. "Don't worry, I didn't harm any of them." He reassured the two.
"I should hope so."
Zaire, untactfully, interrupted the conversation. "Since we're all here, Let's go sign up for that Tournament!"
