Shadow and Espio

Shadow ran around town, trying to find anything interesting that he could do. He was mainly in search for his past, but he knew that being in a different dimension with people who didn’t even know Dr. Gerald couldn’t do him any help. He’d been running around in circles and was getting a little bored of it. No one was helping him ever since they had come down to Mobia, most people just said hi and then left him. He just needed one person to help him carry out his mission as he’d do whatever it takes to get the past back, especially his memories of Maria.
He ran past the obvious, newsagents, restaurants, banks and loads more, until one thing caught his attention, a sand path. He turned and saw that it wasn’t a very long sand path; it was very narrow and leaded him to a big, big, deserted house. ‘This’ll have to do’ Shadow thought to himself as he ran up to house, ready for the unexpected.

Espio was staring at the long staircase that he had to go up. He hated stairs, mainly long, twisted ones which had a possibility of going on forever. He hated Vector for making him do this, as he’d already been up 3 staircases like this one already, but on this one, you couldn’t see the end.
Vector got a call from Vanilla, asking if she could get them to get something for her. An orb, which showed the future, but only your future. No one else could see your future and if you told them your future, you would have a curse inside of you for the rest of your life. Everyone knew it was a myth, well most at least thought that, Vanilla, on the other hand didn’t. She said she’d do anything to get her hands on it, she went on her knees. Vector is a big softie, especially for Vanilla, as he liked her lots. Charmy couldn’t go because his family were coming into town and he promised he’d meet up with them. Vector was also going with him so guess what they did? They sent Espio. A guy who didn’t like the sound of the orb or the place he had to go to find it, but he had no choice, as always.

Shadow opened the door and entered the house, leaving the door open behind him so that it would be easy for him to find the exit. He noticed something on the ground, footsteps. Some one else had entered and judging by the darkness of the step, not too long ago. Shadow smiled, he hoped it was some one he really disliked so that he could go into battle, and he hadn’t done that in a while and started to miss beating up Sonic. The room he was in was pretty empty, except for having a staircase in it with a lantern next to it. Shadow checked everywhere in the room before taking the lantern and running up the staircase.
God! He didn’t know a staircase could even be that long. It took him 5 minuets to get to the top, even when he went in super speed. He ran out of breath and started panting, he wanted to fall to the ground and lie there, but he wasn’t going to fall for the twisted houses tricks. Shadow sighed in relief and continued walking along. He was now in a corridor, a very straight corridor which led him to another door. He opened it and almost fainted. “GIVE ME A BREAK!!” Shadow shouted, making some of the rock from the staircase in front of him fall off. He knew that he had no choice but to go up, so, with all the strength he had, went up the stairs, with a lantern as his guider.

Espio jumped as he heard a loud voice, it made part of the stair he was on fall. He screamed in panic and grabbed onto the stair after it just in time. He was petrified of falling down and starting all over again, or even dying. He pushed himself up and continued walking and luckily, could see the end. He had about 150 steps to go, the same amount as the second staircase he went up. He was a bit more scared that the person who shouted was the owner of the house and he would get caught and arrested, and he didn’t want to ruin his clean record. ‘Please just keep me hidden’ Espio thought to himself as he heard a rumble. He turned down and suddenly saw the whole staircase, crumbling. “HELP!” Espio screamed trying to make it to the top as quick as possible, not caring about how tired he was and how badly he wanted to faint. But, he wasn’t quick enough. He fell. Down he went, along with his life. ‘I’m going to die’ Espio thought ‘why can’t an angel come and save me or something like that?’ and looked down. He was falling into darkness; he started to go numb and couldn’t feel a thing. He closed his eyes and begged for survival. His eyes started to go watery and he screamed “SOMEWON, ANYONE HELP ME, PLEASE, I’M FALLING!!!” and continued to fall like a bird being shot down.

Shadow had just finished going up the third set of stairs when he heard a small scream, it made him fall to the ground but he got up before the lantern could catch fire. He brushed his fur and continued walking, in search for the scream. Some of the ceiling came tumbling down on him, which made his head a bit sore. He didn’t really care though, he just continued walking until he got to a forked path. He looked straight and saw another set of stairs; he definitely was not going that way. He looked right and saw booby traps, saws coming down at fast speed and maces spinning around at Shadows speed. He decided to go left, as it left him in only another empty room. A side of the room’s wall wasn’t there and in that hole, you could see the staircase which he would’ve walked if he went straight. He gave a big sigh in relief and was glad he didn’t go that way, all you could see were stairs, shining in the blackness. He peered his head down, all he could see was blackness. He gulped and stood back, just to make sure that he didn’t fall downwards. Shadow looked up and suddenly saw that the stairs were…breaking? No, crumbling. Crumbling down into the darkness. Shadow felt upset now, he couldn’t go up now and more than likely, that’s where the scream he heard came from. Shadow heard some one cry for help as the stairs came falling down pretty quickly. The voice sounded very familiar to Shadow, so he decided to get ready to catch them if they fell, maybe they could give him something in return. Shadow looked up and saw a black dot falling, Shadow trembled. What if he didn’t catch them? He might even feel…Guilty. He then looked up at the figure again. It was screaming for their life. Shadow then saw come down at a whopping speed so he did something very dumb. He jumped, well more leaped. He opened his arms out wide and closed his eyes.

Espio opened his eyes, just to get one last look at where he was dying and saw them. A person, some stupid person had jumped out, with their arms straight in front of them, with their eyes tightly closed. Espio took a close at the figure; it was a black hedgehog, with red stripes surrounding parts of his body. ‘Shadow’ Espio thought to himself ‘save me Shadow…’ Suddenly he felt himself get held. He blinked and looked up. Shadow had saved him, somehow. Espio cried on Shadow shoulder as Shadow jumped from wall to wall to get back to where he started. “T…thank you Shadow” Espio mumbled, hoping Shadow would hear it. He knew that Shadow wouldn’t have saved him if he didn’t have anything up his sleeve for Espio to do. Espio didn’t care though, Shadow saved his life, so he was going to give the rest of his life to his hero…Shadow? Strange. ‘How the heck did he save me?’ Espio thought as Shadow place him on the ground of the room Shadow had jumped from. Espio looked up into his eyes and Shadow looked into his, his mustard coloured eyes staring into Shadow’s blood coloured eyes. Espio didn’t see what Vector did when he first looked into Shadows eyes. Vector said it was like looking into a graveyard. To be honest, Espio had never looked into Shadows eyes before, he just thought it would be what Vector said, but he was wrong. He saw a hero, a strong proud hero who deserves to be treated like Sonic, but isn’t. Espio didn’t really know what to do after the stare so he just gave Shadow a smile. One of the nicest ones he’s ever given anyone in his whole entire life.

Shadow was shaking himself. If he didn’t catch them, they would both die. Inside his head, he begged all he could to save this person and himself. He then got in contact with something, a body. Shadow opened his eyes to see a pinkish-purple colour chameleon, in his arms. ‘Espio’ Shadow thought to himself ‘I saved him…well not if we don’t get back to the ground.’ Shadow held Espio in one hand, with Espio’s head on his shoulder, and started to jump from the different sides of the wall. Espio trembled some words which sounded a bit like ‘thank you,’ but Shadow couldn’t be sure. He felt glad that he’d saved Espio, on the inside, Shadow was smiling. Shadow felt Espio crying on his shoulder, a little blush went across Shadows face. No one ever cried on him, well except for Maria, her warmth was just like his. He looked and thought how much he missed her, and the friendship they had. Shadow then made a big leap and ended in the same room he was just in. Shadow sighed and placed Espio on the ground, wanting to know what Espio was doing in a place like this anyway. Espio had stopped crying and looked up at Shadow, right in the eye. Shadow looked back. Looking into Espio’s eyes was like looking into an angel or a god or even…Maria. Shadow saw a vision of Maria when he looked into Espio’s eyes then an angel popped in his head. He thought of how terrifying it must be to nearly die in darkness. He thought of love and how it effected. ‘Is this…love?’ Shadow thought to himself ‘no! No, were not even friends! But if that’s the case, then what are we to each other.’ Shadow stopped looking in Espio’s and looked away, he felt confused. Life had done too much for him, to much of what he hated. Always hurting his brain. Shadow then looked down at Espio and stared. Espio was smiling at him with his buttercup eyes and a beautiful smile on his lips. Shadow just stood there, worried about what will happen next.

Espio got up from the ground and wiped himself, kinda worried about the whole thing, what if Shadow was tricking him? What if Shadow did that just so Shadow could kill him himself? It was starting to hurt his brain. He decided that now that Shadow was on their side, he was ok. He did save Espio’s life so he couldn’t be that bad. Espio could just say that it was a rumour to Vanilla, or say that he couldn’t find and will search tomorrow; obviously, he went for the second one, as it didn’t involve lying. Espio decided to just follow Shadow where ever he goes and warned him about it by saying “lead the way, anywhere really.”

Shadow looked at Espio, who felt very uncomfortable about the whole thing and also looked concerned. He himself was both those things, lost in thought. When Espio said he’d follow him, he didn’t honestly care. What was good about Espio was that he was very good on computers and hacking, but only did it for the right reasons. Shadow knew that he had Espio in his own use now and could take him anywhere…He was hoping that there was some sort of lab in there, with a computer which could give all the information you needed…
…But decided that he shouldn’t use Espio like that, but Espio did to give him something in return. That was for sure as he did save the chameleons life. “Going up” Shadow said, grabbing Espio and jumping up the stairs.

Espio felt awfully…Embarrassed. Being picked up by Shadow like he was a girl and went up with him. He could tell that Shadow didn’t look at it like that; he was just in a grumpy, emo mood, as always. But, to be honest he found it quiet comfortable. Shadow was holding him in a perfect position, so it made him want to snuggle up to Shadow. He couldn’t help it, with shadow fur on his chest so close. Espio dug his head in to Shadow’s furs whilst twirling it round his finger. He really didn’t want Shadow to think he was a man lover, but he didn’t know for sure if he was straight either. Espio was to caught in Shadow to realise that he’d put Shadow off, distracted him and made them both fall.

Shadow continued to jump and suddenly he felt something on him. He thought some sort of ghost went through him. But the feeling got warmer and much much nicer. He looked down and saw Espio, lying on his fur whilst twirling it. He went bright red whilst Espio had a very feminine look on his face. Shadow couldn’t help but stare at Espio. He didn’t think Espio would be this weird, or maybe it was just a phase he got whilst walking around. Shadow bent his head down to Espio and he nearly just nearly did it until…SLIP. “AHHHHH” Shadow missed the stone paving and fell back, back into the black. He suddenly realised what he was about to do and begged that Espio didn’t know or notice.

When Espio was finished in his trance, he was looking up. He thought that he was up there a minuet ago. He looked down and found out he’d landed right on top of Shadow. Strangely, his whole body was on his, even though he was facing up when he finished. Shadow had a lot of blood coming from his nose; Espio suspected that he’d damaged it pretty badly. He didn’t know what to do, with Shadow unconscious and all they had to see was a dim, dark light. And Espio knew that he and Shadow were gaining something. A relationship.
