Sketchdump - 06/26/09

Just the sketches that I managed to accumulate whenever I had the chance during my trip down to LA.

Unnecessary backstory ahead

Oh yeah, I just got back from Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood.... it was alright, it's nice how Universal gives you mist machines all over the place so you don't overheat. Mummy ride's awesome too.

I also got to spend the night at [u=ajaxs50] and 's house. It was awesome, I got to eat spaghetti, play games, chat and watch some episodes of the office... I just hope I didn't overstay my welcome.


But enough about that, here's my sketchdump. Some were dun in the hotel room, most were done in the parks while waiting in line for the rides.

Now, one thing I really hate about sketchdumps is... well, I like to think of every drawing as a separate idea or thought, but that's because I rarely doodle for the heck of it. Since there's a few doodles in here (Splat's awesome face for example), I decided to dump them all in here. I still don't like the idea of each drawing not being appreciated as a single thought so... I will go down the list and explain as many as best I can.

Backstory over
--------------

1. You know, I've said this to Jaxxy and Tomamoto, but looking at this first page, it's hard to believe I haven't been drawing in over a month. I'm still drawing at about the same quality and style as before I broke my hand (if not better). Here we have Sarah being open and sincere... and setting up for a hug. There's also Sarah licking an envelope flap a little too fast, so much she severs part of her tongue. Ouch. On the bottom I tried to draw Sarah's face partially punched in. It wasn't the effect I wanted, but it was weird enough for me not to erase it. SHellie and Celie are added for humor.

2. A bit more Sarah acting. If you ever wondered what Sarha looked like wen trying to come off as serious... well... that's close enough. I like this pose, it may not be totally accurate, but I don't think the inaccuracies are glaring enough to make it a problem. I also added Splat acting silly and Casey to full up the page.

3. Mickey, Roger Rabbit and a quickly-done Toontown loft. I did this while taking a break in Toontown.... that theme music is catchy... too bad you can't buy it... Wow, this is my first time ever drawing Roger... I did alright. Man, I love Toontown, it's the only area really worth visiting in Disneyland, there's tons of hidden sight gags in the windows, landscape and the interactive props strewn all over the place.

4. Oh, I drew this while at California adventure in front of the Animation Academy room. The kids going in were going to draw Minnie mouse, and I thought about how if those kids had to draw Celie, how she'd react to being drawn by little kids.

5. Sarah hugging her little sister, Shellie a bit too tightly. Sarah's face is either to say "I'll take good care of her!" Or Sarah just saw something really romantic and Shellie was just within arms length to hug tightly. Also, Sarah in the middle of a take. It's weird, but I was thinking about it animation-wise as a tween... or something.

6. Just a rough drawing of Sarah's backside. I'm trying to decide whether the straps on Sarah's tops should cross in the back or just go straight over... the cross looks a bit funnier IMO. Also drew Sarah trying to get a lot of water out of her head.... I rarely ever draw her ears upright... IMO she looks better with them down. Maybe they look less cat-like, but really, who the hell cares that she doesn't look totally cat-like. It's been said a billion times over that toons looks more like circus clowns than the animals they're supposed to resemble.
