Chapter 7 – First Win

“Oh come on Oliver! Why do we have to leave so soon? There’s still a lot to do in Snowpoint!” Alison questioned as they sat in the lobby of the Pokémon center planning out their path. Oliver sat on one side of the table a cup of hot Cocoa in one hand and a black marker in the other. A star was marked by Snowpoint, symbolizing their starting point. Alison was on the other side of the table standing up and leaning over the map, so it appeared up side down to her. Yet the young teen was too fired up to pay attention to the map.

After Oliver’s victory at the Snowpoint gym, they spent the rest of the day stocking up for the trek down the mountain. Much to the young trainer’s disappointment Oliver wanted to leave as soon as possible, which meant by morning. She’d tried to change his mind but it was no luck. The stubborn man just went to his room to rest for the night while Alison sulked in her own room. The center was just opening when Oliver was up and getting ready to go, but he was slowed down by Alison’s persistent arguments.

“There’s a whole city to explore. They even have a temple!”

“There's a lot of walking to reach the next city" the older trainer replied before taking another sip of his Cocoa.

"I’m sure we can get a ride! People don’t always walking up and down the Moutain. Beside the weather report said there was going to be heavy snow fall!"

"So? It's water..."

"Yeah, but its frozen water!" Alison whined as she sat back in the chair.

“20 degrees... That's easy...”

"For you maybe…” Alison muttered before glaring up at him. “We don’t even know our way down the mountain what if we get lost!"

"Use the sun for direction."

"And when the sun goes down?" Alison countered crossing her arms.

“We use the other stars” Oliver replied as he started to mark a trail down the mountain.

Alison groaned resting her head on the table, "We're going to get lost and freeze!"

“Not necessarily,” a familiar voice replied.

Alison looked up quickly and smiled when she saw the silver haired girl from the day before. Only this time she was dressed in a blue dress with long white sleeves, and a white stripe going down the center of the torso to the white trim around the hem. Dark blue pants that tucked into a pair of white knee high boots protected her legs.

“Hey, Victoria!” Alison smiled, her mood changing quickly.

“Hi, Alison.” The older girl smiled before looking over at the other person at the table. “You must be Oliver, right?”

Oliver nodded slightly before taking another sip.

Despite his cold disposition Victoria’s smile never wavered. “I’m Victoria Sky. Nice to meet you, I heard about your victory yesterday. Congratulations!”

Oliver just looked through a window.

“Oh, ignore him! He’s just in a crabby mood.” Alison glared at him before looking up at Victoria once more. “Are you helping out here again?”

“Na, I just finished healing up my Pokémon, I have to make a trip down the mountain to my grandmothers house. The train tracks are frozen over so I have to go on foot. My offer still stands on helping you down the mountain,” she smiled

“Really? Isn’t it kinda cold to make a trip down the mountain now? The weather report said it was going to be a heavy snow.”

“Heavy snow doesn’t bother me, plus the worse part doesn’t start until we get to the second half of the path. With the right pair of goggles it should be a decent trip. Plus there are a few rest stops along route 216 and 217.”

“Well I guess it would be alright then. Are you sure you wouldn’t mind?”

“Na, I show people up and down the mountain all the time. It’s better when you have company.”

Alison smiled and nodded “Alright. When are you leaving?”

“In about an hour, I just got to pick up some stuff my grandmother wants me to take down to her. I’ll just meet you here when I’m done. Ok?”

The young trainer nodded “Yeah, Sounds great.”

“I’ll se you guys later then,” Victoria replied before taking her leave of the center.

“So suddenly you actually want to brave the frigid temperature and go down the mountain?” Oliver spoke up.

“Yeah, ‘cause unlike you. She knows the way.” She sat back in her chair playing with one of the markers.

“How are you so sure she even knows the way? You met her yesterday.”

“So?”

“You’re way to trusting, kid.”

“I’m not a kid!” Alison growled.

He just rolled his eyes before looking down at the map again. “Whatever, let’s just pick where we’re going next”

“Eterna City, there’s a gym there. I should be strong enough to at least earn a badge from there by the time I make it down the mountain” Alison smirked slightly.

Oliver shook his head “Right… maybe” he muttered before starting to mark the path they would take.

“Hah! I’d love to see you try and get a badge after your little display yesterday”

Alison growled lightly at the sound of the familiar voice and looked over her shoulder spotting Ray-lin.

She gritted her teeth but forced a smirk and turning to face her rival. “I’m pretty sure you would have just as much trouble as I did. You couldn’t even earn a badge while you were in Hoenn” She shot back.

Ray-lin narrowed her eyes slightly, “I bet I could still beat you. Remember our last battle?”

“That was two years ago.” Alison crossed her arms “And fine, we said we would battle when we got on land so lets battle” She smirked

Ray-lin held up a pokeball. “Shall we take this out side then?”

“Lead the way” Alison smirked.

Oliver shook his head as the two girls left the lobby. Normally he would of stayed in the warmth of the lobby and enjoy the quiet while he could. But he couldn’t help but see what the young trainer would do when up against someone on an even playing field.

Alison pulled out her pokeball, “One on one, starter battle?”

“Fine with me” Ray-lin tossed out her own pokeball revealing her Pokémon in a flash of red. A strong Nidorina took the make shift field a black sash wrapped around its neck.

“Wow your Nidoran evolved!” Alison smiled

“Yup! And she’s a lot stronger now,” Ray-Lin boasted

“Let’s just see how strong she is.” Alison smirked before releasing her own Pokémon. “Come on out Rhea!”

Misdreavus took the field floating around energetically.

“I see your Misdreavus is still hyper as ever.”

“Always, I’ll let you have the first move!” Alison smirked.

“Oh how kind. But you’re making a mistake. Nidorina! Poison Sting!”

The poison Pokémon growled before releasing a shower of poison darts at Rhea.

“Dodge and use Thunderbolt!” Rhea slipped out of the way of the attack gracefully and struck back with a strong thunderbolt.

“Dodge with dig!” Nidorina jumps up and burrows through the snow dodging the electric attack.

Rhea floated up higher scanning the ground for the missing Pokémon.

Ray-Lin smirked “Poison Sting!” Snow erupts below the floating ghost as a shower of poison spikes bombards her.

Alison’s eyes widen slightly, “Rhea!!” The Misdreavus was dazed by the attack but shook out of it the attack not having much effect on her. Alison smirked slightly, “Take her down with Psywave!”

Misdreavus dived down at the Nidorina and released the attack.

“Dig again!” Ray-lin called knowing just how damaging the attack could be. Nidorina dived into the snow once more avoiding the attack.

Alison growled scanning the field she saw a slight movement in the snow and smirked.

“Poison sting again!” Ray-lin ordered

“Confuse Ray to your left!” Alison countered just as a spray of poison spikes burst from the snow to the left of her pokémon. Rhea dropped down out of the spray of poison, her eyes glowed bright purple as she released a violet ray just as her opponent popped out of the snow.

“No! Nidorina!”

Alison smirked as the poison pin pokémon stumbled around the field dazed. “Thunderbolt!” Rhea floated back as Nidorina tried to tackle her and shocked the unsteady opponent with a bolt of lightning. Nidorina stumbled shaking out of its confusion but her body was sparking with electricity.

Ray-lin gritted her teeth as she realized the shock snapped her pokémon out of confusion but also paralyzed her.

Alison smirked, “Psywave!”

“Dodge it!” Ray-lin called out but it was futile. Nidorina’s body sparked as she tried to move. Rhea pulled back as it’s eyes glowed purple once more and the waves of psychic energy were released from the bead around her neck once more. Unable to move out of its path Nidorina was hit with its full strength forcing her back into a tall pile of snow.

“Nidorina!” Ray-lin ran over to her dazed pokémon.

“Yes! We did it!” Alison cheered as her Misdreavus floated around her.

“It seems you’re not hopeless after all,” Oliver muttered, catching the young teen of guard.

Alison jumped slightly when she heard his voice and saw him leaning against a tree a few feet away. “When did you get there?!”

“I’ve been here the whole time.” He muttered in a bored tone.

Alison glared at him before looking over at her rival watching her call back her pokémon. “I’m not so weak any more am I?”

“You just got lucky” Ray-lin replied brushing the hair out of her face.

“Yeah right!” Alison muttered as she called back her Misdreavus to its pokeball.

“I’ll beat you next time, you just wait!” Ray-lin growled before walking off.

“Sore loser,” Alison muttered crossing her arms.

“She did lose to you, so it’s understandable.”

“Oh, Shut up Oliver!” Alison shot back as she made her way back inside the pokémon center to wait for Victoria. Oliver just shook his head as he followed her in.
