Typical Japanese dragon. 3 toes. An old tale states that all dragons originated in China, and as they went one direction, towards Japan, they lost toes until they could no longer go on. Those that went the other direction gained toes until they could not grow any more without tripping.

Remember, head of a cow, scales and whiskers of a carp, neck of a snake, talons of an eagle, belly of a clam, tail of a horse (?), paws of a dragon. Often with a human nose.
