Flying

Alice had only known him for a minute, it seemed. She had been celebrating her birthday in a bar, when he showed up there. She was in the middle of a drunken karaoke with her friend Mary, she was singing so loud it was basically a scream, just a loud blathering. The two were holding on to each other for support, but Alice knew she was going to fall off the stage. Fortunately, it was only two feet tall.
So as she was stumbling in her plastic high heels, she saw a hideous man come into the bar. He had a scar across the right side of his face, it looked like an awful burn. As he was staring at her she noticed that his irises were not completely round, they were rather asymmetrical: like a couple of amoebas.
She only saw his eyes for a moment, and then he did not look at her. His eyes were everywhere but her, but she could feel his attention coming towards her like waves of sound, invisible but real.
Wow, I must be smashed, that guy looks pretty good to me, Alice thinks. She floats over to him in a way she had never walked before, and suddenly she was there. She was standing in front of his table, and still he would not look up at her.
“Hey,” she says. She sees a smile come over his face. “You know, it's my birthday,” she slurs in a sexy way. She is watching the delicate curve of his cheek, and she realizes that he has a sweet face. Except for that burn, of course.
He looks up, and meets her eyes.
“Hi,” he says. “Hey want to go outside for some night air?”
“Sure,” says Alice. He gets up from the table and the two of them squeeze their way through the crowded bar, through all the heated masses of bodies dancing in their own sweat.
They emerge in the cool night, the fog settling on their faces and arms in pin drops of water. Alice's eyes are drawn to the moon, as they always are. She can't help herself, it steals her attention, it's light is a sweet beam of white in the black sky.
“So, it's your birthday? Happy birthday,” he says.
“Yeah, that's right,” she says. “Thanks.”
“Listen...I am a vampire. What do you think of that?”
“Hmph, are you really?” Alice draws closer to his strange face. It's strange what she feels, it is kind of like a phobia. She feels a strange fear from his face, he is a vision of a dark death, pulling her into a pit that goes down into eternity. His face, though it may look good, is something that only gives her chills. But she looks at him full on, and she grins wickedly. Her grin was wicked, curling in on itself like the Devil's horns.
       “Prove it,” she says.
“Prove it?” he asks. To her amusement he looks a little nervous.
       “Yeah, you better.”
“I was afraid you were going to ask that...” he says. “Well I've been practicing, so here we go.” He grabs her around the waist.
“Hey, what the hell,” Alice tries to pull away, but then she realizes she is not on the ground anymore.
“Fuck!” says Alice. They are coming off the damn ground!
“Oh boy, it worked!” says the guy.
“What? You mean you weren't sure?” They are rising really high now, and she is gripping on to her one lifeline, this stranger from the bar. She would definitely shatter if she were to drop now. The ground is running away from her, and she is shooting towards the black starry sky like a rocket ship.
“You ready to really go?” He says. The look of giddy excitement on his face makes her nervous, he really has not flown before. He tosses her in the air, and catches her again. He holds her so she is facing the ground, and she can hold her arms out like Superman. They zoom through the cool night air, riding on the wind like it is a dark river.
“Whoa!” She's enjoying it now, in fact she's never felt this good.
Neither has he, as a matter of fact. It was easier to get her in his arms than he thought.

So this scene precedes the last one, called Waking up a Vampire.

I will try to continue the story in a linear fashion from now on...but no promises

Just enjoy the little scenes <3 They come from an alternate reality of a longer book I am writing

This one is good too, but I would have preferred a different ending. ^-^
