Unknown Heroes Ch 6

Chapter 6– The Art of Battling

The field was set for the battle, Candice on one side if the icy field and the challenger on the other. The students from the trainers school sat on the edge of the bench waiting for the battle to start while Alison sat back on the other side with Rhea beside her. “Might as well learn from all this…” she muttered.

“This will be a three on three official battle!” Victor, The referee, stated. “Only the Challenger may substitute Pokémon. Let the battle begin!”

“I was waiting for someone tough! But I should tell you, I'm tough because I know how to focus. I'll show you just what I mean. Go, Medicham!” She called out as she released her first Pokémon. The dual type Pokémon let out a cry as it took is stance, poised to fight.

Oliver reached into his pocket and pulled out a pink and white pokeball, a Love ball. “Go Espeon!” he called releasing his own Pokémon. The psychic type appeared in a flash of red sitting elegantly on the field, not fazed at all by the icy environment.

Alison blinked a few times before checking her pokedex.



“Interesting…” Alison shifted the dex to the next Pokémon.



“Amazing…”

“Oh! An Espeon. It’s been a while since I’ve seen one!” Candice smirked “but that won’t stop me from taking it down. Medicham! Use Bulk up!”

“Me-di-cham!” the Pokémon shifted her stance and started to glow red.

“Espeon, Calm mind” the gem on Espeon’s head glowed red as he started to glow purple.

“Medicham Force Palm!” Medicham opened her eyes and lunged switching stances gracefully before firing a strong beam of energy at its opponent.

“Dodge and use Shadow ball” Espeon jump leaped back out of harms way as he opened his mouth charging a dark ball of energy and fired it upon landing.

Candice smirked before calling out her next move “Detect!”

Medicham’s eyes glowed bright green as she dodged the blow with ease. “Follow it up with Force Palm!” Medichan reared back firing another energy beam.

“Deflect with psychic” Espeon stood his ground, the gem on his forehead glowing as well. The beam of energy took on the same purple glow and turned sharply to attack the unsuspecting Medicham. Medicham bounced back out of the way of the deflected attack.

“Shadow ball!” Espeon’s glow never weavers, as it charged and fired another dark orb. Medichan saw the attack and sprung up from the ground dodging the attack.

“Psychic” Oliver called out seeing an opportunity to end the match. Espeon’s eyes glowed brighter. This time the aura sounded the airborne Medicham before she was slammed down into the gym floor causing the ice to crack.

“Finish it.”

Espeon charged another shadow ball before leaping into the air for the perfect angle and firing it at the downed Medichan. The targeted Pokémon managed to sit up and spot the before she was struck.

“Medicham!?” Candice called out as the dust cleared. But the Pokémon was on the ground dazed from the continuous attacks.

“Medicham is unable to battle.” Victor announced raising a red flag to the leader’s side. The school children whined and muttered among themselves. Alison was awestruck by the display of power. She realized she was clearly out matched by both trainers. “Man… there’s no way we could of even competed with that…” she muttered

“Miss, Miss” Rhea agreed while resting on Alisons head.

Candice called back her dazed pokémon and smirked slightly “you really are a strong opponent. But lest see how you match with this, Go Sneasel!” She tossed out her next Pokémon. A Female Sneasel took the field, a crystal of Nevermelt Ice hanging around her neck from a silver string.

“Wow a real Sneasel!” Alison pointed her Pokedex at the new Pokémon.



“Dark type…” Oliver thought to himself before fishing out the love ball from his pocket and called his Espeon back. “Manectric, you’re up.” He called tossing a quick ball this time. The electric Pokémon appeared ready for battle. He growled softly electricity sparking off of its fur.

“Manectric? Never seen one of those…” Alison shifted her dex again.



“Interesting choice. Let’s see if it can take down my Sneasel!” Candice smirked. “Ice Shard!” Candice commanded. Sneasel bounced up into the air before firing a borage of ice crystals.

“Dodge and use thunder bolt.”

Manectric dug its claws into the ice for grip before quickly moving out of the way of the ice shards and letting out a howl as it released a strong thunder bolt. Sneasel danced out of range of the attack, using one of the large pieces of ice on the field as a shield.

“Faint Attack then Slash!” Sneasel moved quickly along the ice disappearing and appeared again. It appeared to the right for the Manectric one second and then it’s left with sharp punch punching at him while the eclectic pokémon was distracted. She followed it up with a fierce slash. However the second attack barely grazed the targeted Pokémon as it jumped back.

“Don’t let up, Ice Shard!” Sneasels claws glowed as it shot another borage of ice shards. Manectric slid out of the way of the attack ducking behind one of the large ice rocks. Sneasel growled as she bounced up to fire another round of shards.

Oliver smirked slightly “Flamethrower!”

“What?!” Candice gasped as the electric Pokémon shot a strong stream of fire.

“Dodged it Quick!” She commanded

Sneasel quickly pointed her claws down firing the shards dowered while launching Sneasel up out of the way for the flames. “Aerial Ace!” Sneasel flipped in the air before coming down claws still glowing. Manectric tried to dodged but the flame thrower melted the ice slightly causing water to accumulate between its paws and the ice. The attack hit forcing Magnetic away and cracked what was left of the ice where it stood.

Magnetic growled softly as it tried to stand back up but failed and slipped back onto the ice defeated.

“Magnetic is unable to battle!” Victor raised the red flag to the challenger’s side.

Oliver narrowed his eyes slightly before calling back his Pokémon and pulling out a black poke ball with red and yellow decoration, a luxury ball. “Go Ninetails!” he released this third Pokémon.

Nintails appeared in a white flash, its silver fur glistening under the gym lights.

The young student in the gym smiled brightly at the appearance of the “Shiny” Ninetails.

“Wow what a treat, a Shiny Ninetails! This should be interesting.”

Sneasel growled softly as she got into a fighting stance claw poised to strike. Ninetails growled softly as she eyed the dark ice Pokémon cautiously.

“Sneasel, faint attack!” Candice commanded. The dark Pokémon growled before starting to appear and disappear again.

“Not this time” Oliver though to him self before calling out the first attack. “Dodge and counter”

Ninetails slipped to the side before releasing a stream of fire from its mouth. Sneasel tried to spin away but still obtained some damage from the attack.

“Energy ball” Oliver commanded not leaving any room for a counter attack.

Ninetails kept up with the command forming a green ball of energy and firing it. Sneasel slipped to the side avoiding the full damage.

“Again.”

Ninetails growled as it charged up and fired again. Sneasel jumped up to avoid the attack but was hit with a second energy ball.

“Flamethrower”

“Dodge it!” Candice called out trying to make some kind of recovery but it the flame fox was to fast. Before Sneasel could get back to its feet it was hit with the full power of Ninetails flamethrower. It was forced back into one of the ice rocks before sliding down dazed from the attack.

“Sneasel is unable to battle!” Victor raised the red flag to the Leader’s side.

Candice called back her Pokémon. “Your nine tails truly is powerful, But.” She held up her last poke ball. “I'm not about to lose!" she tossed out the pokeball. “You’re up Abomasnow!”

With a flash of red a large female Abomasnow appeared. The temperature dropped significantly and an icy wind blew through the field as the Leaders pokémon appeared. The water accumulated from the heated battle froze once more.

Alison shivered “W-what is that?” she checked her pokedex.



“No wonder it got so cold” She muttered “B-but it’s an ice and grass type… it’s twice as week against fire types then…”

Ninetails growled ready for battle. Oliver narrowed his eyes slightly. He knew there had to be something more to the leaders Pokémon if she was so confident. He had to end it early before she could reveal her trump card.

“Ninetails, flamethrower.”

Ninetailes growled before unleashing another intense stream of fire.

“Abomasnow, focus blast!”

The large Pokémon formed an orb of energy between its hands before firing it into the stream. The orb cut through the flames with ease hitting its target off guard.

Ninetails slid back to the edge of the field before shaking off the impact and growling softly.

A smirk curved Candice’s lips as she called out her next attack. “Use Water pulse!”

Abomasnow formed another orb between its hands and unleashed it. The orb crashed into the ground causing a wave to form and take aim and Nintails.

“Break through and use Flamethrower”

Nintails crouched down low before leaping into the air unleashing an Energy ball at the base of the wave cause it to loose it’s power and the wave to crash on the floor before it could reach her. She landed a few feet in front of her target before unleashing the flamethrower.

Abomasnow tried to deflect it with another focus blast but it still took most of the damage.

“Abomasnow!” Candice winced from the heat. She looked up to see her Pokémon barely on it’s feet and sighed.

“Finish it.” Oliver commanded

“Ingrain!”

Abomasnow eyes glowed bright green. While Nintails growled readying another flamethrower when the ice beneath her cracked and a long root shot up entangling the fire fox as it grew up into the air. Nintails growled unleashing the flamethrower at the roots but more shot up wrapping around the fox one snaked around the foxes snout binding it shut.

“Yes, finish it with water pulse!” Candice called her Pokémon forming an orb of water between it hands once more.

Even with his Pokémon trapped the challenging trainer was still unfazed, he still had one trick up his sleeve and it was time to use it. “Ninetailes, Hypnosis.”

Ninetails eyes glowed bright red as it glared down at her opponent. Abomasnow made the mistake of looking up and was trapped in the glare. The orb between its hands faded to nothing as the Pokémon grew unsteady.

“Abomasnow, No! Fight it!” Candice cheered tiring to keep her Pokémon awake. But it was no use, Abomasnow fell forward unconscious.

“Abomasnow is unable to battle, Match goes to the Challenger!” Victor announced. The trainers called back their Pokémon. Candice smiled slightly “you did good Abomasnow…” She muttered before putting the ball in her pocket.

Alison smiled as she went over to the victorious trainer. “That was amazing!” She cheered “I thought you were really going to lose for a minute there”

Oliver scoffed “as if…”

“You really are an amazing trainer” Candice complimented meeting the trainer on his side. She held out the badge “Congratulations”

Oliver nodded before accepting the badge. “Thank you” he replied

“Well, you really earned it. I know you’ll go far with your team.”

She looked at the younger trainer “Are you gonna challenge too?”

“No, there’s no way I can compete on your level just yet” Alison admitted with a small smile. Watching the battle between the two experienced trainers made her realized just how much work she really had to do.

“Ah well, I’ll look forward to your challenge” The leader smirked. “You can always train hear and learn a think or two about battling”

“No, Thank you. It’s a little too cold here” the young teen scratched behind her head “But I’ll make to give you a real challenge.”

“I’ll look forward to” Candice crossed her arms.

Alison smirked as well trying to keep up her confidence.

“Come on kid, time to go.” Oliver said as he started to leave. His voice had a hint of annoyance to it.

“I’m not a kid!” Alison yelled before bidding the Snowpoint leader good bye and running to catch up with Oliver.
