This is my "Tall" form from my Ceramics class this semester. As it was first-time ceramics, we had to complete numerous different shapes and size. It was much taller originally, but I trimmed it down a LOT!
I threw this on the wheel originally and incised and punctured the sides to create the details. I used matte glazes for majourity of the piece--the exterior has both Waxy White and Emily's Blue painted on, the interior is strictly the latter. The details were painted in with different mason stains then touched up after firing with acrylic paints. This piece is done in White Stoneware.
(Less formal part, ready?!)
I really love this piece...one of the few glazes that turned out as I anticipated. I love all the dualities in it--the inverted glaze (blue closer to the "horizon" line, white higher up) and the fact it can be two completely different works. In plain light, this piece is grass and dandelions (abstract as they are, thats what they are!). When it's used as a candleholder, the focus moves to the light put out from the candle on the walls and ceiling that I've dubbed as the Firefly Effect.
And uh. I effin' love negative spaces
