Hatsukoi wa Kumo ni Notte

This is my first fanart of Goku and Chichi so PLEASE excuse the imperfections. Drawing muscular bodies really isn't my thing and I had to look at lots of references for this one. I honestly didn't really care for them as a couple (or any DBZ couples, actually...I mean, it is an action anime...) until I saw the "Return of Goku and Friends" special last month.

It started for a weird reason, actually -- it was because it was the first time I noticed that Chichi spoke in the same extremely informal way Goku did (like ending sentences with "da zo!"). She's the first female character I've ever heard speak so roughly and refer to herself as "ora" (which is how Goku also addresses himself). I thought it was kind of cool how they were similar like that and from there, as I was re-watching old episodes, I found more reasons to like them.

I especially love the scene after they defeated Majin Buu where Goku says he has come back to life for good and Chichi hugs him and just bawls. I dunno, that scene really hit me because if you think about it, after Raditz came, Goku was always either dead or training and Chichi was always just waiting for him. Anyways, the idea I had for this picture is that they're heading back home and she's still in disbelief that's he's really alive again.

Anyways, this picture is inspired by a song from Dragonball about Chichi and Goku called "Hatsukoi wa Kumo ni Notte" ("My first love rides in the clouds"). It's a cute song that's basically about Chichi being in love, wanting to be his bride, etc.
