Right, so looking at the picture, I bet you're thinking that Pikachu's reaction is to the Pokéballs.
In reality, I was just too lazy to think of a decent background so I raided Google for something simple but also somewhat amusing. (Because visual gags is something Pokémon is totally good for.) - Special thanks to Kazuya who helped me on said raid.
Initially, the reason I drew/animated this (And if you're going to comment that it's choppy, I know. It was supposed to be a gif.
) is because I was working on my story episode summaries and at one part, I just imagined Pikachu making the CUTEST look of annoyance/amusement/approval ever.
And yes, Pikachu happens to be carrying around an unconscious Pikachu on his back.
What happened? Well...
During the story, Pikachu meets up with Sparky again after Ash and Ritchie have a dispute. When they decide to run away to make a point to their trainers, two other Pikachu belonging to Ash's cousin (Maria) tag along.
After getting caught by Team Rocket and exposed to their latest loyalty experiments, Chewie turns on them and tries to take them down. (On several occasions.) But Chewie has a little problem. She's a Pikachu... that never got rid of a certain little issue when she evolved from Pichu... and as a result, continues to electrocute herself. (You can already sense where the amusement is coming from, can't you?
)
Puka, the other Pikachu that tagged along with Pikachu and Sparky was once a lab experiment. (Since they were trying to recreate the surfing Pikachu before it died.) As a result, Puka was given water Pokémon attributes that are fatal to her. However, Team Rocket has shown interest in gene splicing experiments and so wouldn't hesitate to screw her up worse.
Well, since Team Rocket took Puka and Chewie away, Pikachu took it upon himself to get them back with Sparky's help. They broke out then Sparky tried to help Puka - getting recaught in the process - while Pikachu went after Chewie. Chewie was ready to fight Pikachu but Pikachu would have none of it and used Thunder Wave to paralyze her. He got her out and left her hidden... waiting until the coast was clear before running back in to get Sparky and Puka, leaving Chewie feeling abandoned.
Pikachu got Sparky and together, they overpowered the scientists and managed to finally get the unconscious Puka out of there. Chewie was happy to know that she wasn't abandoned and commented about it which annoyed Pikachu into giving her a jolt. It ridded her of her paralysis but she wanted to give him a good jolt right back. To which, Pikachu told her to knock it off. He already has one unconscious Pokémon to carry, he doesn't need TWO.
Chewie - insulted by that comment - walked right up to him and whacked him across the face with her tail, saying that she doesn't need to shock him... to SHOCK him! And hence Pikachu's final reaction of "lulwut? ... HA!"
