Night of Fire - Concept Art

I'll put this into my scraps after I complete the finished version.

Here is a sketch of the two main characters in my manga, Yoshiro and Cinnamon. I actually made a good chunk of this manga back in early high school, and it's hideous. As you can probably tell from the link, Hikaru has been scrapped and replaced with Yoshiro while Cinnamon has undergone a design change. I'm asking for critique on this sketch before I ink/color the final (which I'll probably be doing on Wednesday during my 2AM library shift). I know it looks a bit busy with the bg right now, but hopefully color will make the buildings fade back. I'm still not comfortable with drawing humans, so crit is appreciated!

I guess I should mention that Yoshiro and Cinnamon are fire Elementalists (I really need to come up with a better term). They are one of many fire type pairs that control aspects of the weather that involve fire or heat in general (wildfires, rising temps, etc). Every Elementalist team is made of a person and a creature of some sort; the humans need their creature within 20 feet of them to able to use their element. Well....Yoshiro is one of two exceptions that are able to use their element without their creature nearby. He is able to wave his hand over something and catch it on fire without actually burning the object (hard to explain....for example he could set a branch on fire and fight with it if he wanted to, but the branch will never actually burn and turn to ashes).
