Roses and Carnage

Once upon a time, in an unknown realm, far removed from Heaven and Hell. There was a forbidden contract underway...
"The Dark and the Light must join forever."
So was the decree of the Eternal Rose, and so it came to be.
And then a child was born.
The child was something new; a being unfamiliar to the realm. Neither dark nor light, but something in between. It was not a blend either; for darkness cannot merge with light. Two halves...
Not Light.
Not Dark.
But a Rose and a Thorn.
The dark and light fought over the right to raise the child. Neither prevailed. And so the child was left alone. Neither to the dark or to the light.
But the child yearned for love.
She spied, from afar, what would make her parents love her...
It was the color Red.
They loved Red, she thought.
She prepared gifts for them. The reddest she could find.
And she presented them, filled with love.
But what happened, she did not expect.
Rejected.
Rejected.
And banished.
She was confused. What 'red' did they like? She thought.
Perhaps it was not the 'red' after all.
Perhaps it was indeed the 'light' and 'dark'.
Never blending. Never merging.
"Become a shadow then!"
A shadow?
Yes! A shadow!
And so it was.
